Hello, I’m excited to begin my journey on Instructables by showcasing a bookshelf I made last summer. This design was inspired by examples we found on Pinterest and created in collaboration with my girlfriend.

Supplies

3 pieces of wood (50x200 cm, 18 mm thick)
Nails
Small nails (up to 23 mm)

We purchased the wood from a supplier that offers custom cutting. We requested vertical cuts, resulting in 6 pieces of 25x200 cm wood.

Step 1:

All dimensions can be adjusted to your preference. We chose these dimensions based on the available materials and the shop's free cutting service. The shelf depth is fixed at 25 mm, but you can modify this to suit your needs.

Step 2:

For the exterior frame, use 2 full-length pieces for the height and cut 3 pieces to 55 mm. Secure them with at least 2 nails on each side of each shelf. Start by attaching the top and bottom pieces, then use a ruler to position the middle shelf accurately.

Step 3:

The most challenging part was cutting the diagonal pieces. I found that using a jigsaw with the ability to tilt the blade to 45 degrees worked best. Ensure the cuts align with the diagram provided.

The exact lengths of these diagonal pieces can be tricky due to variations in wood. I ended up with lengths of 74 mm and 69 mm, for reference.

Step 4:

To secure the shelves properly, use small nails. Caferful: the nails should not be longer than the wood's width so that they do not go through to the other side.

Step 5:

In conclusion, I’m proud to share the results of our hard work. This bookshelf also doubles as a beautiful bedside light. I hope you enjoy making this project as much as we did!
