Introduction: Dice Tower and RPG Minis Storage Container

Greetings traveler!

Do you enjoy saving tabletop space?

Is it fun to have all your dice and all your RPG minis safe in one place?

Does it satisfy you to use a dice tower?

Do you like making something unique?

Well, this instructable will tell you about how you can make the Dice tower and RPG Minis Storage Container.

Supplies

  • 200g of PLA plastic
  • A 3D printer
  • A computer
  • Sandpaper
  • CAD and Slicer Software

Step 1: Create the Box With a Divider and Hole

Depending on how many RPG minis and dice you have, the Dimension of the box will vary,

My box outside dimensions: 156mm X 79mm X 23 mm

My box inside dimensions: 154mm X 77mm X 21 mm

Depending on how many minis and dice you have placed your divider accordingly.

Since I have a lot of dice, I gave myself more space for dice than for minis.

For the hole for the dice tower, give your self 60mm of space from your divider and your inside edges

The outer hole will have a 10 mm diameter and the inner hole will have an 8 mm diameter.

Then extrude this shell by 20 mm.

If you need help just use this link and you can get a Thingiverse file of the box

Step 2: Create the Dice Tower Support

This step is really important if you want to have a dice tower.

To create this first create a cylinder with a diameter of 4 mm and 17 mm long.

Then create another cylinder on top of the previous cylinder with a diameter of 6 mm and length of 45 mm.

Then you are done!

Only 3 more steps to go!

If you can't create the file here is my Thingiverse file:

Step 3: The Dice Tower

Creating this is quite complicated.

If you are interested in how to make this part on your own keep reading otherwise you can just use this link to get the part.

To make this part, we first have to make a cylinder that has an outer diameter of 10mm and an inner diameter of 8mm with a length of 17.5 mm.

Here is the hard part, creating the slide.

We have to create two rectangles with a length of 25 mm and with 5 mm wide on the opposite edges of the cylinder. The second image shows the dimensions.

*Note that in the top left I created a flat rail that is contained within the box. You can create something similar to this as long as all the lines stay in the box.

The line cutting through the cylinder is the path that the rectangle has to follow to create a spiral slide for the dice to roll down on.

To find the angle and diameter that the circle has to be to create the slide we need a little bit of trigonometry!

To find the angle and the diameter of the circle follow my instructions on image 4.

Finally, use the sweep function in fusion 360 at 50 percent to create a half spiral with the boxes that you made. Make sure to use the circle as the rail!

Again if you find this confusing please use the link above.

Step 4: Create the Cover

Creating the cover is the fun part!

Depending on the size of your box you would need to create a cover that is 1mm larger on the inside diameter of the cover than the outside of your box.

My outside cover dimensions: 161mm X 84mm X 23 mm

My inside cover dimensions: 157mm X 80mm X 21 mm

Once you have finished with this, you can add designs to your cover making it unique.

Some examples:

  • A logo of a game you like (Some examples are Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering)
  • You name
  • A phone number (In case you lose it and somebody else finds it)

Have fun with this!

Step 5: Printing and Assembly (The Final Step!)

Now that you have designed all the parts, you now need to print them.

You will need to print:

  • 1 box
  • 1 dice tower support
  • 1 dice tower slides
  • 1 cover

Once completed with this, you can sand some of the parts down if you want to get a smoother look. Then follow the video to fully assemble the Dice Tower and RPG Minis Storage Container and know you are done.

Step 6: Summary

I hope this instructable was something that you were able to follow and can do at home

This is a fun way to create a Dice tower and storage for dice and RPG minis for your tabletop.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
