Intro: Dinosaur Eggs

So I ran across a picture on the Internet and found some instructions ... Thought it'd be a neat thing to put up on instructables. This is also my first so I hope I did okay :)

STEP 1: What You Need

You need: ~Eggs, as many as you like ~A stovetop and pot with cover ~As many cups as you have eggs ~Your choice in food coloring .. Purple is best yellow doesn't always work

STEP 2: Boiling Your Eggs

Just boil eggs like you would on a normal morning, assuming you know how to boil eggs in the first place... If not then just place your eggs in a pot, cover them with cold water, bring them to a boil, take them off of heat and cover them for 16-20 minutes, and place the boiled eggs in a bowl of cold water. DO NOT PEEL THEM!

STEP 3: Intentional Cracks

After you boil your eggs, take the eggs and bang them gently on the counter to create small cracks everywhere .. After a few good bangs you can take the egg in your hand and almost mush it to create more cracks.

STEP 4: Food Color

Take out as many cups as you have boiled eggs and fill them with water, enough to cover a boiled egg and put your food coloring in .. For me, purple worked best and yellow didn't work so well.. Then take your crackled eggs and place them in the cups, one per cup and set the cups in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.

STEP 5: Enjoy!

The next morning/day peel your eggs apart to reveal an amazing surprise! Watch your kids laugh and enjoy the strangely colored eggs. **above is the purple egg that turned out so wonderful

Will be doing this ourselves but place the jars with the eggs in the fridge instead of leaving them out on the counter. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you should discard any perishable foods, including hard-boiled eggs, that have been left at room temperature for longer than TWO HOURS. The two-hour guideline applies to eggs you have just cooked as well as chilled hard-boiled eggs taken out of your refrigerator.

Yes, make sure you follow the instructions and place the cups in the fridge.

We keep boiled eggs in our 'fridge (colored with a bit of instant coffee in the water so that we don't get them mixed up with fresh eggs). The boys (ages 7 and 5) gave me a hand yesterday to make these instead. We only did one color (red) and put them in a bowl with a lid overnight, and they turned out great! So exciting to peel and see the "secret"! It has been unanimously decided that this is the way we are going to do the boiled eggs from now on, using a different color each time.
