Intro: Direct Wire GPS Mount + EZPass Holder for Toyota Seinna

My car charger socket is way on the bottom console, and stretching the cable all the way up is damn ugly. Actually, this pic is version 1 where I epoxied the stick directly to the EZPass tag. Thing came off fter 3 days.

STEP 1: REmove the Dome Light

Open the sun glasses holder & remove the screws. Then take a small screw driver, pry open tthe driver side lense, the remove the third screw. Push the whole dome assembly towards the back, pull down and the whole thing will come out, Disconnect the wire harness.

STEP 2: Tap in Another Charger Socket. Use a Multi Meter to Find Which Wire Is Power & Ground.

Get another power socket ~ $8 at any auto supply store. Use a multi meter to confirm which pin is power & ground. Tap wire into harness & connect to socket. Check polarity with existing light socket.

STEP 3: Make a Pivot Ball

Garmin has the propiority 17 mm hook mount. Closest I found was 5/8 wooden balls from Michael's craft. It'll have to do ....

So, sand down some-what to get a flat surface; then glue it on top of 1/2" dowel.

STEP 4: Build a Custom Holder

Stuff the charger into roof lying & fish-out the plug. Put dome light back.

STEP 5:

Well, the dowel fell out, so let's build a wooden holder !!

Back to Michael's again. Get a sheet of Balsa ply wood, measure & cut a box enclosure around the EZPass. Glue & clamp everything down.

I have always wondered if you could just disassemble the power plug for something like this and wire the positive and negative lines directly into the power for a vehicle, thus eliminating the need to wire in an additional plug. I like the idea of tapping the dome light, I always figured one would need to tap the fuse box directly for something like this.
