How deep do you plant the peas?

This seems like a really cool project! I plan on making it within the next week. Does anyone know if you could just dry out fresh/frozen peas yourself? I was going to by some dried peas, but it might be interesting do dry my own.

Frozen vegetables are often blanched, meaning they are immersed in hot water before being frozen. So the plant within the pea would probably be killed. But if you buy fresh peas from the produce department, I don't think you need to dry them, that you can just plant them as is. Although TBH, a pack of seeds often costs less than buying fresh peas.
