Introduction: Dock Charger for IPods and Phones
Sick of all the wires on your table? Sick of losing or breaking chargers and you having to buy new ones? Well, this is the solution for you.
Step 1: Tools and Materials
Materials:
1) 1 Remote control box
2) 1 USB cable
3) 1 iPod connector
4) 1 Phone charger
5) 2 iPod docks [those which come along with most ipods]
6) 1 USB charger with 2 ports
7) 1 Wire wall hook
Tools:
1) Glue gun + glue
2) Soldering iron + soldering stand + soldering lead
3) Cutter
Step 2: IPod Dock
I assume that your iPod connector works, so all you have to do is to remove the plastic cover from the cable. After removing the cover, it should fit snugly into the iPod dock. Glue the plug onto the dock and glue the dock onto the remote box.
Step 3: Phone Dock
First, remove the plastic/rubber cover of the charger head. Then solder the red and black wires of the USB cable onto the head [see diagram]. Then glue the head onto the iPod dock and the dock onto the box. Make sure eveything is aligned before letting it cool.
After gluing everything, finish it off with the wire wall hook. Then you're done.

would it not have been neater to make a small hole in the back of the container and pass the wires through that?

I didn't really own the remote box. it was my dad's. it's mine now though. and yes, I already drilled a hole in the back. Much neater that way.
