Introduction: Doorway Water Squirter
Ah...April Fools Day. The day where the greatest minds come together (or not) under one purpose: to prank each other. Many pranks have been made through out history, one classic being the whoopie cushion. This instructable will show you how to make a device that, when activated, will squirt water at your victim. Its done by a pressure plate under a mat by a door, connected to a pump. If someone steps on it, the pump will go off, soaking someone. BWA HA HA HA!!! Time to get mischievous!
Step 1: Step 1: Supplies
This is what you will need to pull this off:
Aluminum foil
A plastic container
Duct tape
Glue
Wire
A pump
Wire cutters
Scissors
Cardboard
A plastic bag
Foam dots
Step 2: Step 2: Cut the Cardboard
Most of the steps in this instructable will be easy. Take this one for example. Cut the cardboard in to two squares the same size. This is the beginning of the pressure plate.
Step 3: Step 3: Cut the Foil
Now cut some foil squares out, a little smaller than your cardboard squares. Glue the foil on the cardboard making sure to leave a small part unglued for the wire. I chose the corners.
Step 4: Step 4: Attach the Wires
Attach the wires to the foil securely. Add some tape to make sure there's a tight connection.
Step 5: Step 5: Attach the Foam Dots
Take your foam dots and peel off one side. Put that sticky side on the cardboard in a corner. Repeat for each corner.
Step 6: Step 6: Finish the Pressure Plate
Take the square that doesn't have foam dots and place it on top of the square with foam dots. Then place it in a bag and tape up the part where the wires come out.
Step 7: Step 7: the Pump
Cut the one of the wires to the pump and strip it.
Step 8: Step 8: Set Up the Pump
Cut two holes in the top of the container. One should be a bit smaller than the small piece of tubing. The other is where the plug come out. Put the pump on an angle like in the picture.
Step 9: Step 9: Finished!
Wire in the pressure plate to the pump, fill the container up with water, and have fun!
Step 10: Step 10: How to Set It Up
Put the pressure plate under a light rug by a door. Hide the pump set up so that when the person enters the room, they can't see it. But make sure it can still shoot water at your vict...friend. Plug it in. When they step on the pressure plate, the water will squirt at them. I hope you enjoy pranking your friends!!!

Thanks! Actually, (this is a really weird coincidence) I do have that book, but I just knew about the pressure plate from other things like you did.

Cool! i guess it is pretty common!

Yep!

It looks like you used a mains voltage pump. Did you have mains voltage running through the pressure switch that may have been sitting in a puddle of water?.

Do you mean did I leave something electric sitting in water? No, I didn't. That was from a test for the pump that failed.

I was more interested in if this switch worked ok with 120v ac. I would have thought there would have been a lot of sparking and the foil may be damaged.

Oh. As far as I know there was no sparking. It should work ok but im not positive
