Introduction: Dorothy and Toto Amigurumi

Crochet Wizard of Oz dolls!

Dorothy is about 15 inches tall, and is entirely too long of a pattern to type. So here are tips for making an amigurumi like her:
- She has jointed arms and legs so she can move! I used 35mm joints from Cr's Crafts http://www.crscraft.com/
- Her snap-on, child safe eyes are also from CR's
- Seed beads make adorable freckles
- Big heads look good on small dolls, but on big dolls the weight of all that stuffing will make a big head floppy. Go with more natural proportions.
- Fingers aren't all the same length. When making tubes for the fingers, make them more/less stitches around and more/less total rows to change their sizes!
- Her hair was attached just like you'd attach fringe to a scarf... cut a long length of yarn, pull a loop through a stitch, pull the ends through your loop and tighten.
- Her dress is knit. It uses a knit 2x2 fair isle to create a gingham sort of pattern.
- Frill edges make everything pretty! For her sleeves and socks, I added a round of (sc, hdc, sc) all in same, slip 1.

Toto does have a basic pattern:

1) sc 3, sc 3 in last st. On other side of starting ch, repeat (sc 3 across, sc 3 in last) (12 sts total)
2) (sc 3, sc 2 in last three sts) twice (18)
3) In BLO, sc 5, sc dec over next three sts (the toe), sc rest of the way around but sc dec (over 2) once in the other end of the oval (the heel) (15)
4) sc 4, sc dec over the centermost three sts of the toe, sc rest of the way around (13)
5) sc 3, sc dec over the centermost three sts of toe, sc dec (over two) in the center of the heel, and sc the last one or two sts (10)
