Introduction: Dragon Eggs (Game of Thrones)
Game of Thrones season 4 premiered on HBO earlier this month - and will not be taking a break for Easter!
Hurry up and craft an easy collectible set of Dragon Eggs (inspired by the books) to help you celebrate the holiday as you watch a new episode on Sunday.
Step 1: Supplies
For this project you will need three (pre made) 6" paper mache eggs, scissors, a few sheets of sticky back foam paper sheets, fast drying craft glue and acrylic paint for your eggs.
Step 2: Create a Template of Scales
To create the scales to cover your eggs begin by cutting out a shape from a scrap of paper (preferably heavy weight). I chose to create a rounded egg shape. Once you are happy with your scale template use it to trace more onto your foam paper sheets. (Quantity needed will depend on your placement of the scales)
Step 3: Cut Out Individual Scales
Carefully cut your shapes from the foam paper making sure the paper back stays intact until you are ready to place the scales on your egg shape.
Step 4: Placing the Scales
I placed the scales on each egg beginning from the bottom of the egg and working toward the top row by row. By creating a circular pattern at the very bottom you can ensure that your egg will stand upright (if desired). Once the egg is covered with scales use a fast drying glue to secure any lifting edges.
Step 5: Painting
Once the glue is completely dry it is time to paint your eggs! I painted mine according to George Martin's detailed description of them in the book:
"The surface of the shell is covered with tiny scales, and as she turned the egg between her fingers they shimmer like polished metal in the light of the setting sun. The eggs are beautiful colours. One egg is a deep green, with burnished bronze flecks that came and went depending on how Dany turned it. Another is pale cream streaked with gold. The last is black, as black as midnight sea, yet alive with scarlet ripples and swirls."
