Introduction: Dried Leaf Shredder From Scrap Cocoa Wafer Tin

About: Am an Artist, like to do ARts and Crafts

Hello friends, hope every one is good.

Today am going to show you how to make a leaf shredder using scrap can/tins and DC motor.

There was lot of dried leaves in my garden and it takes around 2 months to get it decomposed so what i did is just powdered the leaf which ease the decompose process very faster (2 weeks).

As a testing phase i made a leaf shredder from a Small Cocoa Wafer can and the results were amazing.

i will show the end outcome while going thorough the steps.

lets see what are the materials required to make this shredder.

Step 1: Materials Needed

1, Scrap metal can

2, DC motor adapter to attach a blade ( i used a screw and nut with washers)

3, 18 Volt DC motor

4, File

5, Screw driver

6, Drilling machine

Step 2: Make Hole in Can to Fit the DC Motor

1, Remove the plastic protector from DC motor and place it on bottom of can and mark the holes with marker. Refer image 1 and 2.

2, Using Drill machine put holes for shaft and Screws to secure the Motor to Can. Refer image 3 and 4.

3, with the help of File just grind the edges of hole to make sure its smooth.

Step 3: Fit the Motor to Can

1, Place the motor at the bottom of the can and rotate the motor to align the Holes at same position. Refer image 1 and 2

2, Place the Plastic Protector inside the Can and align the holes to screw it properly. Refer image 3 and 4

3, With the help of Screw driver tight the screws to make sure the motor fits to the metal can firmly. Refer image 5

Step 4: Prepare the Blade

Note : Make sure you make the blade with light material if we use the heavy blade then the entire setup will vibrate and shatter.

1, I used the metal sheet which i took it from 9volt energizer battery, i just straightened them and cut to desired length. Refer image 1

2, measure the size of the motor shaft or adapter and drill the hole. Refer image 2

3, file the edges of hole to make sure the edges are smooth. Refer image 3

4, Attach the blade to the motor shaft adapter ( here i don't have shaft adapter so i used the screws and secure the blade with help of nut) Refer image 4 and 5

5, Tight them all to make sure the blade doesn't come out due to vibration.

Note: Make sure to measure the blade from the shaft because the length of blade from shaft should be equal on both sides to avoid vibration.

Step 5: Attach the Blade to Motor

1, Insert the Blade to Motor shaft, i just used quick fix to secure the blade to motor shaft. if you are using the Shaft adapter, make sure you fit the blade tightly to the Motor shaft. Refer image 1 and 2

Step 6: Ready to Rock and Roll

1, I just brought a cover full of dried leaves for testing. Refer image !

2, Put the Dried leaves in the can ( Do not fill the can 100% of leaves give some inches of space ).

3, Once filled with leaves just close the can with a cardboard, or cover up with what ever material you have. Refer image 3

4, I used the laptop charger as DC power source,18 volt is enough to run this smoothly and crush them fine.

5, you can see the outcome in image 4, 5 and 6 it just powdered them well.

Step 7: Wait for 2 Weeks

1, Do not use them immediately for plants, Just collect the powdered leaves and put them on a pit add some water, vermi compost, and close the pit. so after couple of weeks it will be ready to be served to plants

Refer image 1 - Compost placed at top is 2 weeks old, the micro organisms did their job well and it changed from yellow to brownish black.

Compost placed at bottom is the one we prepared now it will be light yellow color.

Step 8: Outcome of Using Powdered Leaf Compost

Friends i have added images from my garden, All Greenish and healthy.

you can see here, Spinach, papaya, Mango, Chilli, Banana.

I used this compost to plants every two weeks and the results are amazing.

Try in your Home and share the outcome.

Hope everyone enjoyed it.

Bye.
