Intro: Duct Tape Convertible Window Fix- Cheap & Easy

This instructable will show how I replaced the rear window on my 2002 Toyota Solara convertible with only a clear plastic sheet and lots of duct tape!
The rear window of my convertible shattered and in lieu of shelling out big cash on replacement  and the installation fee, i opted for the cheaper route- clear plastic and duct tape.

This solution is very economical, easy enough that anyone can do, and takes around 10 minutes from start to finish.
I cut  a large piece of clear plastic sheet- I didn't measure it- and I duct taped the hell out of it, both inside and out, it was that easy.  This has lasted a month so far- it even withstood  Hurricane Irene!
Not only does it lock out the water, it locks in the freshness!

i've had to do this before. i have found that using a clear shower curtain works best. you can find one that is super thick which allows it to be pulled a little tighter, thus removing the sag that billows as you drive.
Why not put plastic on the inside and duct tape round the edge of the window neatly?

I replaced the plastic side screens on my car with some 2mm perspex. Worked fine for years.

Actually the plastic screen isn't expensive - search from a marine chandler or shop that sells replacement wind and spray decks for boats. You may even be able to reclaim and old one that is no longer used.
interesting idea, i will look into it
Nice repair, but I hope it's not permanent. You might want to look around toyota forums for some Ideas, and check wrecking yards for cheaper replacements.
thanks for the tip, no its not permanent, its just until i can afford a real replacement
