Why buy new planters like a sucker when you can quickly make a more adorable ones from milk cartons and duct tape?

The combination of a water proof carton and strong duct tape make these pots durable enough to use inside as well as outdoors.

Materials
Milk Carton
Duct Tape - Gray, Black, White, Green, Yellow, Red
Parchment Paper

Tools
Scissors
Pencil
Stencils (optional)

Step 1: Cut Milk Carton

Get your milk carton (Half gallon or quart) and decide how tall you want your planter to be.

Cut the top off the milk carton
Unfold top piece
Remove plastic spout

Step 2: Cover Carton

Cover carton in two layers of duct tape.

Cut two 1/4" holes on opposite sides of the bottom of the carton.

To ensure proper drainage, when you are ready to plant, fill with gravel up past these holes. This will also prevent soil from running out.

Step 3: Create Bottom Tray

The top of the carton is used to create the bottom tray for the planter.

Cut the top piece in half
Lay out side to side
Tape the two pieces together
Place carton on top of piece to determine size - Allow about a 1/2" all around to be turned up to make the sides
Cover piece entirely in duct tape and fold up sides
Make a 1/2" diagonal cut in each corner
Cut out corners
Bend sides
Tape sides together

Step 4: Decorate!

Now the fun part!

Using parchment paper allows you to create all kinds of duct tape stickers. You can make intricate designs without getting tape stuck all over the place or having it fold up on itself.

Stick duct tape to parchment paper
Turn over and using a pencil, outline whatever design you like. You can use a homemade template from graph paper, a stencil or just freehand drawings
Cut out designs
Remove duct tape from parchment
Affix your new decorations to the carton

Fill your personalized pots with plants and flowers.
