Introduction: Duct Tape Body
in this instructable, i will explain how my son and i made a duct tape body for Halloween.
you will need:
2-3 rolls of duct tape
old clothes: long sleeve shirt, long pants and socks (will be ruined, so nothing nice)
old clothes for the dummy to wear
poly fill, newspapers, plastic bottles, shipping peanuts, basically anything you can stuff a body with
a tan pair of gloves
old shoes or boots
Step 1: Tape It Up!
have your guinea pig- i mean model- wear the old clothes.
start with the feet. start layering the tape using strips about 10 inches long.put the 1st strips on horizontally. pull all holes closed before you tape over them! you DO NOT want the tape on your skin! after you have taped all the way to the waist, start over at the feet, this time putting the strips on vertically. this adds strength to the body.
the 1st night i taped from the feet to waist. i put the tape on sorta loose (baggy clothes are GREAT for this) this enabled us to get the duct taped 'suit' off with minimal cutting. be sure you overlap the strips of tape slightly. this binds the body together.
you will probably have to slit the feet and ankles to get the 'suit' off. once you've helped the model wiggle out of the suit, simply tape up the cuts, using 1st a horizontal layer, then vertical.
you may go ahead and stuff from the waist down if you like. i used poly fill in the feet, stuffing it firm. for the calves, i used 2 liter plastic cola bottles. more 2 liter bottles + poly fill for the thighs, and tons of plastic grocery sacks for the fanny.
Step 2: The Upper Body
have the model put the baggy old shirt on again, and begin. this time, you will need several LONG strips of tape. they will form 'suspenders' over the shoulders of the model. 3 or 4 on each side, going from the front waist to the back in 1 long continuous strip. this gives the body great strength.
once the suspenders are formed, begin with the 10 inch strips in the same method as the day before, overlapping them horizontally. go all the way to the neck, and down the arms, leaving the armpits open (this will help you get the sleeves off without having to slit them too much)
when it's covered horizontally, begin with the vertical strips. overlapping them well. cover it entirely.
now you'll have to cut the shirt off. i cut straight down from the neck to the bottom of the shirt with the sharp scissors. small slits at the wrists allow the hands to be freed easily. tape up 3/4 of the back using 2 layers of tape. tape up the armpits the same way.
place it over the waist you finished already. use 2 layers of tape, i diagonally, 1 vertical to attach it firmly to the waist. then use 20 ounce coke bottles to stuff the forearms, and bicep areas, using poly fill as needed to make it firm. the body may be stuffed with whatever material you have plenty of. i used plastic grocery sacks again. tape the rest of the body up. you may leave it headless, or stuff a mask and attach it to the neck. the gloves may now be taped onto the arms, and you can put his clothes and shoes on.
there you have it! a cheap, lightweight body for your haunt!
