Intro: Duct Tape File Box

All you need are a couple of basic supplies and you can make a simple file box. It can be customized to your personal tastes and needs.:D

STEP 1:

These are the basic supplies you will need-duct tape, scissors or utility knife, cardboard box(cereal box or size of your choosing),super glue or other strong glue, and fabric.

STEP 2:

Next you will trim your box sides and top off. Keep edges as straight as possible.

STEP 3:

Now you if you are using 2 different tapes you will evenly space your rows of tape as pictured.

STEP 4:

You will repeat on the other side as well. Then put the rows of your second color in the open spaces-leaving bottom without tape.

STEP 5:

make 2 strips double wide.

STEP 6:

The two strips will be used to attach you side to each other as in the picture-then you will make 2 more double strips to finish the outside sides of the box. then you will do the same on the bottom.

STEP 7:

Now you take your tape and put it on the middle and slowly tape around the whole box(three sides)slightly overlapping on the top.

STEP 8:

You can now either finish the inside with sheets of ductape or fabric. I used fabric, measuring the length and width needed taking 1 inch off of the length. Then attach duct tape to the top edge of fabric and attach to box.

STEP 9:

Next you glue the inside of the box and gently push fabric into the glue and smooth. then attach with tape at the other side as you did on the fist edge. Then begin to make the ruffle. You will fold one long piece of duct tape the long way one third of the way up. and the other color is folded in half the long way like in the picture.

STEP 10:

You will fold pleats now for the ruffle as in the picture. You can just fold in a fan style. After completing it you will attach it near the top edge(down about 1 inch). It is easiest to make the ruffle in a couple sections and attach them to each other.

STEP 11:

Then you will take your super glue and your piece of ductape that is folded in half. You will put glue on the back of you piece and attach along the top of the box, over the top edge of the ruffles.I used bobby pins to secure it in place all around the top edge. Now if you want to make a the flower you will make 2 more strips, one of each color. One folded 2/3 of the way up the other about 3/4 of the way.

STEP 12:

You will fan fold both strips and attach the ends as shown.

STEP 13:

After attaching them to each other you will sew a button in the middle. You will need a large needle or hole punch.

STEP 14:

After putting a small piece of tape on the back supper glue to box and secure with bobby pins. Allow to dry and enjoy your box. You could ad fule folders or dividers depending on what your purpose for the box is.
