Intro: Duct Tape Rope, the The Answer to the Life Long Question: Rope or Tape

If you need to do, make, or fix something  you usually have 2 options, tape or rope( i know there is liquid adheisives and screws or nails but hear me out, duct tape has an adheisive and if your thinking of using screws or nails then use them. some thing that big wont be held togather by a wrap of tape, tie of rope, or a dab of glue)  But most people do choose tape, but sometimes tape wont do and you have to use rope. But now your rope keeps sliding out of place. Home makers and DIYer's i present... DUCT TAPE ROPE. It has the sticky and durabilty of duct tape and the strength and handiness of rope. It is the answer to the life question... rope or tape? After you do this instructable you can have the answer of nobody else. BOTH

Please vote for this in the duct tape tough contest because i need a good camera which will save me alot of time and i will be able to post instructables faster give a new guy a chance:)

STEP 1: Materials/tools

Here's a list of everything you will need...
1-3 rolls of duct tape(depending on how long you want it, for smaller stuff you barely need a roll) your brand choice of course
a crumb and dust free surface for shorter rope, a mid size clamp and surface for mid rope, and a small vice grip or a large strong clamp
Power drill and maybe extra battery if you want lots of rope, a hand drill will work to but it will take longer and be harder to use
a decision including the choice of tape or rope
a mouse ready to hit the 5 star rate button, subscibe button and comment button. in any order you want :)

STEP 2: Making It

First you need to decide how long your rope needs to be. cut the tape a little longer than that length because its a little shorter when your done. After you cut the tape take one end and fold a loop so the sticky part is on the outside of it. Now take that loop and kinda crush it, roll it or any other way to make to make it crushed up as long as the sticky part is still on the outside. I suggest rolling it. Now take that and put it where a drill bit would go it the drill and tighten it in so its squeezed and cant come out of the drill. Put the other end on whatever surface, vice, or clamps your using. After you did that put the drill on reverse and go. You should see the tape slowly spinning into rope with the sticky side visible and on the tape not in it. The longer legth the longer this will take. keep it going until you have reachedan appropreit tightness. You can tell its to tight if the rope curls instead of spinning.

STEP 3: Finshed and Done

Take the end not in the drill off of whatever its on and quickly crush it or make it so the rope can't  unfurl. It will a little bit but not so much that it isnt rope anymore, then take out the end in the drill annndddd     DONE        to keep it away from itself cause it sticks like normal tape would so you cant really store it and will have to wip up a new batch every time you need some:( but its easy to make and quick:) Tope it on or around whatever you need it for. Tope meaning a combination of the words rope and tape. dont mix them the other way though. That would be a pretty nasty thing to do to your tape. For those of you who dont get the joke( idk who wouldn't) pay attention to the coming uppercase letters. And thats how you make tope, Rope and tAPE(hint hint) lol whatever.

STEP 4: Video

heres a video of how to make them. and btw  if  you dont want it to be sticky then just make the drill go forwards instead of backwards and you have regulaer rope from duct tape

i actually was planning to do something similar but with the sticky part pointing in then braiding multiple strands and taping the ends of the rope so it doesn't undo itself and cover it with double-sided tape to make it sticky
thats a good idea. If i need to make it more durable i could just braid a couple of pieces togather and they would stick to eachother and not come apart. yea but i dont think there is double sided duct tape so i dont know how you would do that.
btw i published it in the contest and should be there in a day or to. as long as it meets the requirments"includes duct tape" and it does
remember to rate comment subscribe and ill do the same thnx
true, but u still couldnt really store it easily since it would be sticky... maybe if you made a long, thin piece of duct tape fabric to wrap around it since the fabric wouldnt be sticky so u could take it off later to use. then u could coil the whole thing up to store and just unwrap the fabric when u need to use it. and i dont think there is either, i was thinking of the double-sided scotch tape... ill try the fabric thing and post if it works or not once i find my roll of duct tape
use talc powder to neutralize the stickiness, i use that with dry-suit seals and latex wrist seals that are not being used, use in bike tube repairs too, anyplace there
is excess glue and tackiness/ stickiness, like my wardrobe/
you can use baby powder if it is not long term and you are not concerned worried about the perfume breaking down the materials, as we were with drysuit seals
i am just going to wrap some around a piece of 1" PVC and put a piece of paper, fabric, foil or something like that between each layer of it so it wont stick to itself. since there isnt as much surface area as normal tape it wont hold as as tight by it's just as sticky so it would work perfect. but are you going to be posting your on the contest because i already did and we would have to work something out as to who gets it. we could split it if we win, whats ur idea
oh thats a good idea... i tend to go for the more redundant insanely wasteful ones... especially with wind-up car mechanisms :D (i had about 7 gears just to wind it up when it worked even better with none) and im probably not going to post it in the contest since i really wont use a camera for much, but if i do enter the contest we could split it, just not sure how we could do that fairly if we win...
Haha thats a waste of gears:) I could really use a camera though so that works out. But if one of us wins we can't split the online stuff like the membership or awards. Do they give patches for the membership to. But it's probebly better if only one of us enters. Anything else u want to add in. If I do one of us does win then we should be as even as possible with the physical prizes
yeah i eventually got it down to 3 2 days ago without taking off the wind-up part. Crap, i forgot about that... im not sure if they do or not. i'll probably not enter the contest since im trying to make something else for it already, but if i do enter the rope you can have the pro membership and stuff since i really dont need it because then i would have no reason to enter other contests! I usually enter for the membership not the physical stuff since i get tired of wading through piles of legos and crap just to get to my bed...
Ok that's fine. Do you know what your going to be entering. I might enter a insulated duct tape shirt. I need colored duct tape to make it more colorful.
ill vote for this in duct tape contest if its there
