This is instruction on how to repair a Motorised Brush Head used with DC34 and DC58

These instructions are for a Dyson Motorised brush bar used with Dyson Hand Held vacuum cleaner DC34. The symptoms for the fault this relates to is, when the trigger is pushed the brush bar would rotate for about a second and then stop.

Having followed the instructions on the Dyson website on how to remove and clean the brush bar, the fault is still present.

For this repair you will need:

A Trox screw driver

A clamp

Socket set

STEP 1: First Remove Brush Bar

First you need to remove the brush bar, use a coin of suitable size to unlock the silver end cap and withdraw the brush bar.

STEP 2: Remove Drive Belt Cover

Next unscrew the two trox screws and remove the cover (this can be a bit of a fiddle), then remove the drive belt. Do this by turning the large cog and gently lift the belt as it goes towards the large cog.

STEP 3: Remove Large Cog From Shaft

Use a pin punch or a tool which is smaller than the hole in the cog, use a large socket (From a socket set) with a extension bar to support the main body of the Motorised brush head (From inside the assembly). Using a hammer or bearing press to apply press to the shaft, to seperate the shaft from the cog.

STEP 4: Remove Hair From Shaft Assembly

Remove the hair from the shaft this is the cause of your problem

STEP 5: Reassembly Cog to Shaft

Use a clamp to push the large cog back onto the shaft, there should be no play (side to side movement) of the cog shaft assembly. This is the cause of the initial problem there is a gap between the brush bar drive and the phosphor bronze bearing letting hair enter and eventually clog the assembly up.

STEP 6: Refit Belt and Cover

Refitted the belt by putting round the motor cog first then feed it onto the large cog, rotating the large cog at the same time. Then refit the cover and put the brush bar back in and lock the silver cover in place.

I have the V7 mini motorized head that has almost the same design except that the cog seems to be glued... I couldn't remove it from the shaft for the life of me, really bad design Dyson!

The lock on my power bar is stripped. How can I remove it?

If the brush bar is stuck, just keep agitating it until it gives, make sure you completely clean it up before reassembly. Mine was pretty bad from being run while clogged, plastic tearing off and chips, due to age I decided against getting a new brush bar, and it has been working fine ever since.

The problem was, we were using it for the stairs for convenience, and it is more for less trafficked areas, such as a couch.

Keep going until it gives, it will come out. Mine was in bad shape and damaged from being clogged, but after a good cleaning and dry running it (without the brush bar) a few times, it is working great.

The brush doesn't want to come out. I've tried using pliers but it won't come out. By rotating it, the drive cog moves with it.

Hi, do you know what size the Torx screws are? The smallest Torx screwdriver I can find is T10, and that is still too big.

You need a T8 size torx screwdriver
