Introduction: ❀ EASY ENERGY BARS (non Sticky!) ❀
when I go climbing or snowboarding I always bring those with me, they are delicious and fast to prepare. they wont stick all over and to themselves.
Step 1: WHAT YOU NEED
you need:
-host/wafer;
-honey;
-roasted nuts (hazelnut, walnut,..);
-dry fruit of your choice;
-chocolate;
-muesli/granola.
Step 2: MAKE THE BASE PASTE
the base paste for your energy bars will be nuts and honey: mince enough nuts for how many bars you want to make (I used hazelnuts) in the food processor and add some honey (is easier if you warm up the honey a little bit), until sticky. It can be about 1/3 of honey and 2/3 of minced nuts or nuts and muesli.
Step 3: ADD OTHER INGREDIENTES
Place the paste on a wafer or host. you can now add to your paste some minced muesli (if necessary add some more honey), granola, dry pieces of fruit, coconut powder, chocolate chips, or melted some chocolate and cover one sides of the wafer. cover again with some nuts paste.
Step 4: COVER WITH THE OTHER WAFER
cover the paste with another wafer. enjoy in the mountain!

what kind of shelf life do these snacks have? Can you make a big batch and freeze what you aren't going to use right away, or are you better off just making what you need each time?

I keep them sometimes for 2 week, because honey, nuts and dry fruits have a long shelf life, but I usually use them faster than that. I think, anyways, that is better to make them fresh. also because if you freeze them the wafers or hosts will become soaked...

ok .. good to know.
Since I have not seen them before .. I have to ask .. Where do you get the wafers from? Is there any particular type you find holds up better than others, or are they all about the same?

I think they are all fine, you should just pay attention to the ingredients(because some kind have got fat in it) and take only the kind with flour and water. in my picture I m using hosts, that I image are difficult to find there, but the plain wafers I sew them in many big grocery store.
