Intro: Easy Ten Minute Rocket

Here's an easy ten minute rocket.  My younger brother and I have lots of fun making this.  We used an an inner tube, drill, drill bits, a rod, duct tape, a plastic soda bottle, wood, metal hammer, pvc pipe, and a utility knife.

STEP 1: Step 1

First, start with an inner tube, drill, drill bits, a rod, duct tape, a plastic soda bottle, wood, metal hammer, pvc pipe, and a utility knife.

STEP 2: Step 2

Cut the tire nozzle out of the inner tube. 

STEP 3: Step 3

Cut the rubber from the nozzle.

STEP 4: Step 4

Ask your mom or dad if they would have a plastic cork; you can also ask your friends' parents to save corks for you.  Don't use a real cork made out of cork because it will fall apart.  You might have to cut the plastic cork if it's too long.

Drill a hole in the cork to fit the tire nozzle.

STEP 5: Step 5

Get two blocks of wood (2x4's).  Drill a hole in the wood.  Put the tire nozzle in the hole of the cork.  Take a rubber mallet and just tap the nozzle into the cork. 

STEP 6: Step 6

Get a plastic soda bottle, a short piece of pvc pipe, and a roll of duct tape.

Cut a 3" piece of pipe and tape it to the bottle.

STEP 7: STEP 7

Use a piece of copper pipe or a rod.  Pound the rod or pipe in the ground.

Take the rubber mallet and tap the plug in as in the picture below.  Slide the bottle on to the pipe.

STEP 8: STEP 8

Use an air compressor.  Find a tire air filler and fill the bottle with air.  We fill our bottles to about 50-80 psi. While you're filling the bottle with air, it will take off!

Try not to lose the cork so you can re-use it!

This is dangerous. You've gotta say what PSI you're filling it to, otherwise someone might try to go above the bottle's actual limit and hurt themselves. Also, you're apt to hurt yourself, and while I must admit this is a pretty neat way to do it, it's just not safe.

I googled a bit and found one place that said they can take under 100 PSI. Don't take my word for it though, do some research.

Also, CAPSLOCK is not cruise control for cool.

This isn't dangerous, as the cork will be pushed out long before the bottle will burst. Also, I watched a video recently of a guy filling a soda bottle to 200 psi. It didn't burst. Clarification: I think filling a bottle with that much air is stupid, but it shows how much those things can hold.

Sorry for the caps lock, I had to do it fast and I'm not the greatest typist.

We fill it to approx 50 to 80 psi. Again my typing isn't great and I was trying to get as much down as possible, plus this was my first instructable.

(Note from Apple's mother: Apple is [ahem...] not quite 13 and his understanding of safety is much greater than a. his typing ability and b. his understanding of netiquette.)
