Oh how I love the beautiful designs on vintage cutlery! Why not repurpose these beautiful works of art into a wearable?

Step 1: Collect Vintage Cutlery...it's Nice If the Silver Plate Is in Good Shape!

Step 2: Select a Design You Love!

Step 3: Saw Out the Design!

You will need a jeweler's saw. These are inexpensive and will last you forever. I also have a 'bench pin' when I saw. You can make your own with just a jig saw and a clamp!

It's nice to use some sore of lubricant for your saw blades.

The saw, blades, bench pin, and lubricant can be ordered through Rio Grand Jewelry supplies (my favorite store)

Take your time. Relax! Cut the design out as best you can. You will break a few blades...saw what!

You can define the design further by using files or sand paper (if needed)

Step 4: Drill Hole for Earring Hooks

Think about how you will attach the earring hook. Perhaps cut out a big enough circle at the top of your design so that you can drill a small hole with your drill and small bit.

If you have the tools, you can solder a jump ring where you want to attach the hook, but it's not necessary.

You can also apply a patina to antique the design (liver of Sulphur Rio Grande tools) then rub with a soft cloth to polish the high spots.
