Introduction: Earrings With the Silhouette Portrait

Simple to make and fun to wear - paper cut with the Silhouette Portrait become custom earrings.

Step 1: Inspiration...

When I saw the Silhouette Portrait and what it can do, I thought of Jen Stark's beautiful work. She's working at another level, of course. I just wanted a simple example and decided to make something wearable.

Step 2: Gather Your Supplies....

* Colorful paper - Silhouette Portrait can cut just about any paper. I choose origami paper because they are bright and varied.

* Eye pins and findings - Any kind of earring-making parts will work.

* Mod Podge

* Silhouette Portrait

* Laptop loaded with Silhouette software

Step 3: Design Your Shape and Make the Cuts...

Use the basic shape creators to make a layered object. Break the object out into the individual layers using copy and paste. Create new files with various layers and with the appropriate paper specifications. Cut out the shapes. Make sure to have even numbers of each layer.

Step 4: Play...

Try out different color combinations. Make matching pairs and some that are related but not twins.

Step 5: Assemble and Finish...

Use the Mod Podge and brush to glue the layers together. Slip the eye pin between layers. Consider experimenting with the orientation - I made a set that hang at slightly different points on the shape. Apply a top coat or two of Mod Podge. This provides stability and a glossy finish.

Step 6: Wear and Give Away...

Wear your new light-weight creations and share the other sets with friends.
