Introduction: Easily Draw a Head!
To draw portrait, you will need to focus vastly on the head. This is how I would usually draw a head, and it can be done in a few easy steps.
Supplies
-A digital drawing application (I used IbisPaint X), but any paper is compatible as well.
If you are using paper, you will need these supplies as well:
-Pencil
-Eraser
Step 1: Draw a Circle
Start by using your drawing tools to draw a circle. This is how I do it on IbisPaint X.
Step 2: Forming the Head
You can draw a line through the circle, and connect both sides of the circle to the bottom of that line. Try making a ‘V’ or more rounded off curve based on the head you are trying to make. If working digitally, you may use the mirror tool to make it easier for you to connect. Lastly, erase the part of the circle still inside the newly formed head.
See pictures above for reference.
Self-Challenge: The line you make at the beginning of this step will determine the direction of the head. To simplify that, if you draw that first line toward the right, the final head will be looking towards the right. Just remember to connect the two other lines from the circle to this first line in the same way towards that direction. Do you think you can make a head that is not looking straight forward like the pictures above?
Step 3: Ears
Make a ‘u’ around the supposed chin of your head shape. Above that, make an upside down ‘u’ around the supposed forehead. Then connect the two ‘u’s with a final line, and your head has been made!
See picture above for reference.
Step 4: Done!
This is the finished head. You can try adding details like hair and eyes, but this is just the base shape for what you want to add. Thank you for following along!
