Easily Open a Bottle of Wine
Intro: Easily Open a Bottle of Wine
This is a simple way to open a bottle of wine using a corkscrew without struggling to get the cork out.
To paraphrase Archimedes, give me a place to stand and a lever long enough, and I will open this %$#(&!!! bottle of wine.

STEP 1: Materials
For this instructable, you will need the following:
a bottle of wine
a corkscrew
Ideally, you want a corkscrew like the one below. The flappy bit is the important thing.

STEP 2: Remove the Foil
Using the cutter on the corkscrew, remove the foil that is covering the top of the cork.
STEP 3: Screw in the Corkscrew
Screw the corkscrew into the cork. The trick here is to brace the flappy metal bit against the lip of the bottle as you twist the corkscrew. This will give us a lever for the next step.
If you watch the video at the end, you'll notice that I managed to screw in the corkscrew fairly badly off-center. Normally this makes it quit e a bit harder to get the cork out, but with this method, it doesn't make much difference.

STEP 4: Remove the Cork
Using the lever that we set up in the last step, remove the cork from the bottle. Basically, just lift up on the corkscrew while pushing down against the flappy metal bit. The cork should come almost all the way out of the bottle with very little effort. I find this way to be MUCH easier than just yanking on the cork until it pops out.
I've also included a video of the whole process so you can see how simple this really is.

thank you so so much! Brilliant! Even with two arthritic hands and a rotator cuff injury, I did it, thanks to your spot-on instructions.
