Introduction: Easy Apple Carrot Dog Cookies
It's the holiday season and we're all baking cookies but what about your favorite canine companion? Here's a cookie recipe that you can make with what you already might have in your kitchen.
Box grater or food processor
Rolling pin with 0.25" attachment (the attachment is optional) If you don't have a rolling pin, a bottle of wine will work too. Just put cling wrap on the exterior.

Step 1: Gather Ingredients
- 2.5 cups whole wheat flour - plus extra for dusting
- 0.5 cup oats (I used quick oats)
- 1 TBSP brown sugar (optional)
- 1 apple (I used a Gala this time)
- 0.5 cup or so of grated carrots
- 1 egg beaten
- 0.3 cup vegetable oil
- 0.25-0.5 cups water (only if necessary)
Preheat your oven to 350.
*if your dogs are allergic to any ingredient, please choose a difference recipe.
Step 2: Core and Grate the Apple
Don't peel the apple, I cut them into pieces and blitzed in the food processor until they were 3-5mm pcs. This time my apple turned out to be a little over a cup grated.
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a big bowl, mix the flour, oats and brown sugar.
Step 4: Mix Wet Ingredients
- In a medium bowl lightly beat the egg,
- mix in oil.
- add in the grated carrots
- add in the grated apples
- mix until combined.
Step 5: Combine the Wet Ingredients to the Dry Ingredients
The "dough" should be really dry and crumbly, start by adding 0.25 cups of water.
I tried to get the dough to stick together with minimal water.
The amount of water depends on the size and juiciness of your apple and carrot.
This time it took all 0.5 cups of water.
Step 6: Gather Your Crumbly Dough and Cut Out Shapes
Whole wheat flour dust your work surface.
Roll out your dough to 0.25" (6 mm) thickness.
When you cut out shapes, make sure they are roughly the same size or they won't bake evenly. I used stars, but you can just cut squares. The shapes won't make a bit of a difference to your doggies!
Roll up the left over cut outs and keep making more cookies until you run out of dough.
This time I made 60.5 pcs of 1.75" stars.
Place them on a baking sheet - these do not expand, so you can place them quite close together.
Step 7: Bake for 30 or So Min
Or until the cookies are firm and starting to brown on the edges. If you used a silicon mat like me, it may take longer.
If you do not have a silicon mat, you can use a sheet of ungreased parchment paper, the bake time maybe a bit shorter.
Please be careful when taking them out of the oven.
Step 8: Transfer Cookies Onto a Cooling Rack and Enjoy!
You can eat these too, they're just a bit bland.
If you do not have a cooling rack, just let the cookies cool on the baking sheet.
