Intro: Easy Bake Water Crackers

Introduction
The Water Cracker – Simple, yet elegant, a staple with cheese or soup.  Here is a 4 Ingredient recipe to make your own Water Crackers in 30 minutes.  Once you master the undemanding Water Cracker add flavors for flair…

The Story
I like foods that are satisfying to eat and easy to make but appear difficult.  A while ago my wife started eating a box of water crackers every other day.  At that time they were $4 / 4.25oz.  Occasionally, I could find them on sale or deep discounted, but that was infrequent.  I looked at the ingredients and thought, I could make these.  I tried several recipes and techniques.  What I bring before you is a refined Easy Bake Water Crackers recipe.

A Rhyme
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.
    Bake me some crackers as fast as you can;
    Roll it, Pat it and mark it with E,
    Pop it in the oven for me, me, me.

Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
    Bake me some crackers as fast as you can;
    Roll it up, Prick it up;
    Put them on sheet;
    And toss it in the oven as fast as you can!

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.
    Teach me to bake some as fast as you can;
    Roll it up, Prick it up;
    And throw it on sheet!
    Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.

Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man;
    That I will master, as fast as I can;
    Roll it and prick it, and mark them with an E,
    now there will be enough for you and for me.

Yummmmmm!

STEP 1: Ingredients and Tools

Ingredients:
1)  All-Purpose White Flour - 1/2 Cup,
2)  Margarine - 1 Tbl spoon,
3)  Water - 2 Tbl spoons and
4)  Salt - Pinch to taste.

This recipe is enough for 4 individual size servings.  Increase the amounts to serve more.

(Some tools will have dual purposes)
1)  Rolling pin (I will call it “King”),
2)  Measuring cup (I will call it “A Bird”),
3)  Fork (I will call it “Doll”),
4)  Spatula (I will call it “Flip”),
5)  *Oven mitts (I will call them “Hands Off”),
6)  Toaster Oven (I will call it “Red”),

Now we are ready to make some Easy Bake Water Crackers!

STEP 2: Dry Ingredients

1)Sift (“Ed Nygma”) Flour into Mixing Bowl, ("8 of 9")
2)  Add Salt and
3)  Pre-heat Toaster Oven ("Red") to 400 F.

STEP 3: Add Margarine

1)  Add 1 Tbsp of Margarine and
2)  Mash the Margarine into the flour.

STEP 4: Add Water

1)  Add Water and
2)  Mix well.

The dough should be dry to the touch, not tacky.  If still tacky, dust dough lightly with flour.

STEP 5: Roll

The dough should have a light coating of flour so your hands and "King" do not stick.

1)  Place some flour on the counter,
2)  Place some dough (about 1/4 of the dough) on the flour,
3)  Roll dough until paper thin. (Note: The thicker the dough the longer it will take to bake and the less cracker like it will be.)

STEP 6: Prepare to Bake

1)  Cut to size, (Round, Square or any shape)  I prefer squarish shapes so that I won't have to spend time combining and rolling left over edges.
2)  Poke holes in the crackers with the Fork ("Doll").  These are known as "docker" holes, they help to cook the cracker more evenly and keep them flat.
3)  Place pieces on Cookie sheet ("CM") and
4)  Repeat Steps 1 – 3 for the 2nd Cookie sheet.

STEP 7: Bake

1)  Place Cookie sheet in preheated Oven for 4 mins or until crackers start to brown,
(Note: Cooking time depends upon thickness of crackers and
1/2 way through cooking turn the pan around, so the ones in back are now in the front this way the crackers won't over cook.)
2)  Remove Cookie sheet from Oven with Oven mitts ("Hands off") and place Easy Bake Water Crackers on serving plate or storage container and
3)  Serve or store for later use.

Jouir de !

Remember: Turn the temperature gauge back to "Toast".

STEP 8: Observations & Summary

Observations
The benefits of this are:
1)  Quick and easy snack or side dish.
2)  Add spread or dipping sauce for a party platter.
3)  Break them up and add as a topping for soup or salad.

Summary
These instructions are for 4 single serving of Easy Bake Water Crackers.  If you want to make more than use these measurements;
1)  All-Purpose White Flour - 2 Cups,
2)  Margarine - 2 Tbl spoons,
3)  Water - 5 Tbl spoons or until tacky to the touch and
4)  Salt – 1/2 tsp.

Overall prep time will increase from 30 mins to 1hr 10mins, cook time per cookie sheet should stay the same but you will have more cookies sheets to load and cook.  The bulk of the time results in rolling the dough paper thin.  Other differences will be using an oven and full cookie sheets.

I enjoy the fruits of my labor. (Translation: "I am satisfied with the results").

Then I saw, and considered it well.  I looked upon it, and received instruction..

An alternative for anyone not interested in taking the time to bake.
English water wafers are unreasonably expensive, as previously noted.
But guess what?
Jewish Matzos taste nearly the same, come in large packs, and are dirt cheap.
Check them out at your supermarket.
All I have is a normal over what temperature do you recommend for that?
Thank you for reviewing and commenting. I am sorry for not including the temperature; set the temperature to 375 °F.

I looked up this recipe as I am moving and didn't want to buy another box of crackers just so I would have one more thing to pack . I already have the ingredients in the cupboard . So I am hoping these will be as good as they look . Because I will make them always instead of buying at the store next time. :) I'll let you know what I think and add a pick . :)

Thank you for reviewing and commenting. Easy homemade food is more satisfying than store bought. After you are comfortable making them, you can spread some melted butter over the crackers before baking or add sesame seeds or sesame oil at mixing time for variation.

Bon appetit.

I have gone Gluten Free, and the one thing I have missed to crackers. Used your recipe using GF Flour made crackers that are Gluten Fee, and they are great! Thanks!

You are welcome. I am glad to hear that you used the recipe to make Gluten Free
crackers and they came out great. What
type of flour are you using e.g. rice, tapioca, an all purpose GF flour, etc? Thank you for experimenting with the recipe.

I used one cup of Namaste Perfect Flour Blend. They were great with the homemade tomato soup I made. Thanks for posting your recipe.

Good choice, we have Namaste Biscuit Mix as well as Pancake and Waffle Mix. They make good Gluten Free mixes.

Very nice INSTRUCTABLE.
Nice flare with the rhym.

Thank you for reviewing and your comments.
This is a nice base to add other flavors, nuts, seeds or different types of flour. Thanks,
Thank you for reviewing and commenting. You are correct; I have also added stone ground wheat to the original recipe, which adds a different flavor and texture. I am going to try sesame seed next.
Very nice cracker. I will try these. Well made video.. Thank you
Thank you for reviewing and commenting. The taste will be affected by weather you add butter, margarine or shorting. Let us know how yours come out.
I guess this is the recipe for matzah to celebrate Passover.
Thank you for reviewing and commenting. I guess you could use it to make Matzah, although that wasn’t the original intent. The only unadulterated crackers (without sugar, milk, natural flavors or soy) we could find were water crackers. I didn’t even think about using Matzah. After Passover most of the unsold foods are marked at a big discount, too. Thank you again for the idea.
