Introduction: Easy Grip 3-D Printed Arthritis Fork

The arthritis fork uses a 3-D printer handle to make a utensil that is easy to hold and gentle on the muscles and joints of the hand. This instruct-able can also be used to make a knife or spoon.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Materials

Make sure my 3-D print file is compatible with your printer.

Get a fork (or other utensil) that (at one point along the handle) has a width of 1/2 inch and a thickness of roughly 1/4 inch. (If you don't have this you'll have to sand the utensil later, or adjust the printed handle to fit.)

Make sure you have a hacksaw and a vise for cutting the fork.

Step 2: Print Handle

Print the handle. To make sure the file converted to your printer, you can print a sized down version before printing the real thing.

Step 3: Cut the Fork

Measure the point where your fork is 1/2 inch wide, make that place with a shaper.

Put the fork in the vise and use a hack saw to cut the fork on the sharpie line.

This is where you'll have to check your fork with the handle. If your fork is too big for the opening, sand it down of hacksaw it more until it fits. If it's too small by only a little you'll be fine.

Step 4: Assemble

Fill the square opening of the handle with hot glue or rubber cement. Put the fork in the opening and let it dry.

Step 5: Eat and Enjoy!

    Great idea! As someone with arthritic hands (gotta love early onset autoimmune arthritis), I have a suggestion: you might want to consider making this considerably thicker, with a rounded cross section. Flat shapes like this can be rather painful for some of us to hold - holding it tightly enough to support it causes the thin edges to dig into the hand, while a thick, rounded shape distributes that pressure more evenly.
