Intro: Easy Witch's Cauldron From a Yoga Ball

Double, double toil and trouble! This witch's cauldron is an easy DIY project that will help set the scene for any spooky party.

You don't have to be an artist to make it and it's made using easy-to-find materials, some you probably already have in your house.

STEP 1: Materials

You will want to gather..

1 yoga ball (This shouldn't cause damage to the ball and you can easily deconstruct the project after Halloween).

A black rectangular cheap plastic table cloth

Clear packing tape

2 shallow circle woven baskets

Great Stuff expanding foam

2 - 3/8" x 11" pieces of rubber hose of some sort

Black spray paint

Neon green paint

4 black solo cups

Black construction paper or roofing felt paper

Scissors

Hot glue gun

STEP 2: Form

The first step is to form the top and bottom of the cauldron.

This is simply done by taping the baskets on the top and bottom of the ball. You want them to be as level as possible. Two long pieces of packing tape in an "x' on each side ought to hold them in place.

STEP 3: Cover Up

Wrap up your cauldron shape like a present.

Find the middle of the tablecloth and tape one edge to the middle of the ball. Roll it and cover until the other edge comes back to the ball. Secure with tape. Gather the top and bottom and tape around the gathered base with packing tape. Cut off excess the excess table cloth on top and bottom and flatten down what's left. Secure with more packing tape.

Take one of your scrap pieces of plastic you cut off and twist it into a rope shape. Tie that around where the top of your cauldron will be. This forms a lip for your cauldron.

STEP 4: Foam

Put on gloves and safety googles for precaution.

Cover the floor with a drop cloth and start putting on the foam.

Shake up the can of Great Stuff and attach the nozzle. Cover the top of the cauldron shape and leave some drips going down the sides.

Keep in mind this will expand but try to lot leave gaps, if possible. I let it expand over night.

STEP 5: Paint

Paint your handles black to cover up any writing. Let dry.

Paint the dried foam with a neon green paint. Make sure to get every little nook and cranny. You may have turn it so you can see all the angles that missed getting painted.

STEP 6: Finishing Handles

Take about 12" of packing tape and form a U-shape with each of the two rubber hoses.

Hot glue your handles about 3 inches down from the lip of the cauldron.

Using black paper cut two half circles and that will cover the top of your handle shapes. Hot glue those in place.

STEP 7: Feet

Since the cauldron is so light weight, black solo cups make perfect feet! I think traditionally they only have three feet but I hot glued four on to the bottom of my cauldron for more stability.

STEP 8: Set Up Your New Decoration

You now have a new piece of Halloween décor!

Set up in your house, porch or at your party.

Add ons:

Orange lights make a nice "glowing fire" effect under the cauldron.

A smoke machine tucked behind the cauldron adds a nice touch.

Plastic bugs added on top add to the creepy factor.

Very imaginative. I like that it's made out of ordinary materials and can be taken apart after Halloween.

I think it might look even more cool with some glow in the dark stuff or something added to the top to make it more visible when the lights are turned off. I love the idea of using the Orange lights for the fire. Really finishes it off nicely.

except use green lights to produce a green glowing foam bubbling out of the cauldron top.

Haha. I was trying to make a cauldron for as cheap as possible. Believe it or not the baskets came from Goodwill and the ball I already have. Project total = less than $20. Thank you!
