Introduction: Easy Wizard Robe

About: Jack-of-all trades, master of some. I would probably be much more modest if it wasn't for these delusions of granduer that I suffer from.

This is a robe I made close to 20 years ago, (ugh I think I just heard my bones creaking) and I have used it by itself or with other accessories for several different costumes over the years.

And yes .. in case you are wondering ... I often think of the scene from The Princess Bride whenever I pull it out of the closet ...

Westley: [planning a strategy] Oh, what I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak.

Inigo Montoya: There, we cannot help you.

Fezzik: [produces a holocaust cloak] Will this do?

Inigo Montoya: Where did you get that?

Fezzik: At Miracle Max's. It fits so nice, he said I could keep it.

Step 1: Dimensions

I made this robe using 2 flat sheets (I'm not positive but pretty sure they were full size) and a pillow case

bottom edge to shoulder - 70 inches

width from sleeve to sleeve - 77 inches

Bottom hem width - 54 inches

chest width - 36 inches

sleeve height - 20 inches

Step 2: Hood

I liked the trim on the pillowcase so I incorporated it into the hood of the robe by making it the edging on the hood. It is just too bad the sheet wasn't trimmed the same way or I could have made the bottom edge of the robe match the hood.

I made the neck hole on the robe 10 inches wide and about 3 inches deep.

Once I had the basic shape of the hood made, then it was just a matter of fitting the bottom of the hood to the neck hole.

Step 3: Wearing It With Style

As you can see the robe is a bit roomy.

I found that putting a belt around the robe has 2 distinct advantages.

1) it allows you to gather and blouse the robe for a better fit and to adjust the length so it isn't dragging on the ground

2) it creates a 360 degree "pocket" that you can put all sorts of goodies into .. just remember to empty the pocket before you take off the belt or everything will come crashing down around your feet.

Step 4: Blast From the Past

Here are a few images from me getting ready to take my daughter trick or treating on Halloween 2004 (she was a witch) ... because why should the kids have all the fun dressing up to trick or treat.

Sorry the pics are a bit low res .. I think the camera I had at the time was taking pics at 2 Mega Pixels.
