I really enjoy sewing and I sew often which means I have a lot of excess fabric lying around. One easy, quick, and fun thing I like to make with leftover fabric are scrunchies. This is how you can make one for yourself.

Step 1: Gather All Materials

Sewing Machine
Thread
A bobbin
Fabric (preferably cotton or polyester)
A ruler
Scissors or a rotary fabric cutter
Cutting mat (optional if using rotary fabric cutter)
3/8in. braided elastic
Pins
A Large safety pin

Step 2: Set Up Sewing Machine

Turn of sewing machine and set to straight stitch. Put thread in the sewing machine and through the tip of the needle. Put bobbin of the same thread in its place in the bobbin case (different sewing machines differ in where the case is).

Step 3: Cut Fabric

Measure and cut a 20in. x 4in. piece of fabric with scissors or rotary fabric cutter and cutting mat.

Step 4: Pin and Sew Edge of Fabric

Pin 1/2in. of the fabric on the 4in. side by folding the right side (side of the fabric with the pattern) into the wrong side (other side of fabric with no pattern). Sew in a straight line with straight stitch, removing pins while sewing.

Step 5: Pin and Sew Scrunchie

Flip fabric to the right side and fold horizontally. Pin the 20in. side and sew in a straight line with straight stitch, removing pins while sewing.

Step 6: Flip Fabric and Add Elastic

Flip the fabric right-side out. Cut an 8in. piece of elastic and pin the large safety pin to the edge of the elastic. Thread the elastic through the fabric, making sure not to let go of the opposite end and using the safety pin to keep track of the end. Unpin the safety pin from the edge and tightly tie both parts of the elastic together.

Step 7: Finish Sewing

Put the raw edge of fabric inside the selvedge piece of fabric. Fold in 1/4-1/2in. in and sew a straight line with straight stitch. Cut excess threads and you have finished the scrunchie.
