Intro: Ecological Bike Fender

Lets make a bike fender with reused materials.
Its GREEN, its EASY, its FAST and its USEFUL.

U will RECYCLE:

1 pet bottle
1 useless mouse cable

STEP 1: Cutting the Fenders and Holes

1-Pick the PET bottle and cut it in the half excluding the top and the bottom,
2-Round the corners.
3-Make two tiny parallel cuts one near the middle up and the other in the middle donw...(this holes are to pass the wire or the strip that will fix into the bike frame).

STEP 2: Attaching the Fenders

3-pick the useless mouse cable and strip out the internal copper wire to use it to fix on the bike downtube and rear rack. (save the rubber cover its can become a very useful elastic rope)

PS: I used some christmas propaganda blue nylon strips (very common in Brazil due to religious traditions(not this case)) in the rear fender. The cuts I made passed more fit the strips and tied even better than the copper wire from the front. I used some fire in the nylon ends.

STEP 3: PEDAL Dry and Green

4-Now UR ready to drive dry, green and happy cause :

-You help enviroment moving with your bike

-Your fender with no cost is even lighter than the commercial ones (u can apply some paint to fashion it but i prefer this recycle style ...save even more petroleum from the paint)

-My mamma broke the bottom of this tupperware while I was making the photos, I fixed the bottom and added some wire to join the cover and got a PICNIC tupperware. Putted it all together with the elastic and very strong cable from the mouse.

-Now pick the junk u made and take to recycle.

PS- save the fancy mouse ball =)
PS2- Thanx mommy and bro in concept, design and everything else....

This is a great Instructable, but you need to add a main image of the final project to the intro step. Please do that and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work. Thanks!

Did you wrap your frame in electrical tape?
Yes.
cause this frame is painted in a beautiful ferrari red and this is an urban bike meant to not be stolen.
Bike itself remains dirty. I keep looking for a cheap and green alternative for doing full fenders. Being detachable is also important. Congratulations!
I have just arrived from heavy tests with this fenders and two questions remains: -Making curves makes the tire go off the front fender area. We may make it larger or think about some attached to the front fork that could be also easy to remove in trips. I saw some retractible ones, not green neither cheap. -In high speeds the rear fender needs to be moved a little bit more to the back, we may thing about extend this one in two parts for full coverage. Besides all this, it can handle most of day by day needs in some minutes. Thanx for the comment...ill think about it for the next project.
