Introduction: Elastic Band - Painting Life Hack
Whenever you are painting, the natural thing to do is wipe your paint brush against the edge of the container. This results in a messy, sticky outside of your paint can and paint waste. Why would anyone want to do this when this problem can be solved with an ordinary household item (that costs barely a cent) in just a few seconds.
Step 1: (and Only Step!)
Place an elastic band around an open paint tin (as shown in image). Paint as per usual but instead of wiping the paint brush against the edge of the tin, wipe you brush against the elastic band. All the excess will go back into the tin without messing everywhere.
Simple as that! Hope you find it useful. Please comment what you think at the bottom!

Nothing against your instructable, but I tried this the last time I painted and it was horrible. The elastic moved around every time I tried to wipe the paint off it, and sometimes it snapped and flicked paint. It was much easier just using the side of the can. Maybe others will have more success.

So sorry that it didn't work out for you. Maybe it was the type/size of elastic band that you used? Thanks for letting me know.

The tautness of the band would DEFINITELY make a difference in the effectiveness of the fix working the way it's intended. I'm def. going to use it--and make sure I pick an elastic band that sits tight on the can. :)
