Introduction: Electromagnetic Generator

This generator is a cool way of powering an LED light. The LED light is powered by manually winding a pencil.

Supplies

The electromagnetic generator can easily be made at home with a few materials.

The material list includes:

Two CD's

Small bottle cap

A smooth circular lid

A pencil

Cardboard

Hot glue gun

A rubber band

A paper clip

Scissors

A Motor

Step 1: Step 1 (creating the Wheel)

Step 1 is to get 2 CD's and your lid from a container. You must put a whole in the lid the same size as the wholes in the CD or bigger. You then must glue together the CD's with the lid between them. After that you must get a small bottle cap and put a hole through it and attach it to one of the CD's as seen in the picture. The last part of creating the wheel is to put the pencil through the bottle cap, CD's, and lid.

Step 1 is finished.

Step 2: Step 2 (creating the Base)

To create the base you will need cardboard and hot glue. You must cut a piece of cardboard large enough to fit your wheel, motor, and light, but it must be less than 18 inches to fit the requirements. You then want to cut about 4 equal size pieces to hold the wheel and pencil. You must glue two together so you have two sturdy pieces. After that you must put two holes in the small pieces of cardboard that are big enough for the pencil to go through and for the CD's to not hit the bottom of the base. Then glue the two pieces to the large piece of cardboard. The final part of the base is extra support. You must cut two small pieces of cardboard. You then must glue the two smaller pieces to the base and to the cardboard that is supporting the wheel.

Step 2 is finished

Step 3: Step 3 (connect the Wheel to the Base)

For this step you must take the pencil that your will use for winding the wheel. You then must run the pencil through the two protruding pieces of cardboard then through the wheel (don't forget to put the rubber band in the center of the wheel).

Step 3 is finished

Step 4: Step 4 (connect the Motor and LED)

To start off you must glue your motor to a place on the base that allows the rubber band to extend, but not far because then you won't be able to wind the wheel. After that you can get a bottle cap and run the LED through it. You can run the cables and tape them underneath the base. You must connect the cables as shown in the pictures and make sure the cables do not touch each other. You can then glue the cap to the base. Once all the above steps are completed all you have to do is wind the wheel while the rubber band is connected to the motor. The LED should now turn on.
