A ring made of money? How is that possible without covering it in diamonds? Well, this project will show you how to make a ring out of a nickel. It’s very elegant, and it’s literally made of money!

Supplies

You will need:
-A Dremel
-A small ball blade attachment (photo below, it’s hard to explain)
-Medium size coarse grinder attachment
-Metal brush attachment
-A nickel
-A metal vice (when I first did this project I used a wood vice and the hot metal ended up burning it, so a metal vice is preferred)
-Eye protection
-Gloves (the metal shavings fly)
-A pair of pliers

Step 1: Grind Your Ring

First, place your nickel in the vice. Attach the medium-size coarse grinder to your Dremel, and grind off the face and rear of the coin so the pictures and words disappear. The ring looks better without the words, but you can certainly keep them if you wish.

Step 2: Form Your Ring

After you have finished grinding your ring, attach the small ball blade attachment to your Dremel and bore a hole in the middle of the coin. Enlarge this hole until the medium size coarse grinder can fit inside. If the size of your grinder attachment is too large to fit in the hole after the hole has been enlarged as much as possible, find a smaller grinder attachment and use that.

Step 3: Grind Your Ring Again

After the hole in the coin is large enough to fit the coarse medium size grinder, attach the grinder to your Dremel and start to smooth out the inside edges of your coin. The grinder attachment should be big enough that the ring will smooth out without much maneuvering. If your coin has grooved outside edges, grind those off as well. Be careful with the grinder as it can take off more than you think at high speeds.

Step 4: Cut Your Ring

Next, cut a slit in the top of the ring with the small ball blade attachment. This is so you can separate the two sides of the ring to make it more elegant.

Step 5: Separate Your Ring

Next, take out your pliers and bend the ends of the ring away from each other slightly. It looks more elegant when this is done, and it adds another dimension to your ring.

Step 6: Polish Your Ring

Next, get out your metal brush attachment. Polish your coin until the edges are smooth and there are no sharp points or edges that you can cut yourself on. Make sure that you polish the end that you cut in the last step thoroughly as that can become sharp in the cutting process.
