Intro: Embroidered "Rest" Pillow

After I saw this pillow on Esty I thought, "I could make this myself."

This instructable explains how to make a slightly different version that is embroidered instead of inked.

Hope you enjoy!

STEP 1: Materials

For this project you will need:

  • A pillowcase (If you don't have a pillowcase I recommend this instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/how-to-sew-a-zippered-pillow-cover/ for directions on how to make one.)
  • The pattern attached to this step modified to fit your pillow. I used it for my pillow that was 18 in. by 13 in.
  • An embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • A needle
  • A water soluble fabric marker
  • A pillow or stuffing to stuff your pillowcase
  • Scissors (Not shown)
  • An iron (Not shown)
  • A zipper(Optional)

STEP 2: Transfer Your Pattern

First transfer your pattern onto your pillow.

I cut out music rests and the words in a rectangle laid them on top of the pillowcase, with the pillow in it.

Then I traced the music rests with the marker and traced the boarder of the words.

(Note:You will need to trace the whole/half rest pattern twice once pointing down and once pointing up.)

I put the word pattern inside the pillowcase and since my fabric was thin I could trace the words with my marker.

STEP 3: Embroider

Then I embroidered the pattern.

First I took the embroidery hoop and put it over a small bit of the pillowcase and embroidered the pattern that was in it.

Then I moved the embroidery hoop to another place and embroidered that doing this for the whole pillowcase.

STEP 4: Wash and Dry

I washed out the fabric marker and rolled the embroidery in a towel to dry.

STEP 5: Iron

After it was dry ironed the pillowcase flat.

STEP 6: Done

Now you can finally rest.

I love that it reads right to left, beautiful sentiment!

Alternatively, it reads left to right, and shows them in a decreasing durational order?

It just makes me sleepy looking at it.
