Emulsion Glass

Introduction: Emulsion Glass

Hello!

I made an emulsion in a glass. It looks very nice and if you shake it, the colors will move.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

You will need:

  • a hot glue gun
  • a board
  • a pencil
  • a needle
  • a spoon
  • oil
  • water
  • syrup/food coloring (It's esential that the syrup doesn't dissolve in the oil.)
  • the glass lid of a glass jar (I used a coffee-jar. The lid must have a plastic underside)
  • a toothpick (not on the foto)

Step 2: Mixing

First, mix the water and the syrup, so you will get a red liquid. You can use the spoon if you want.

Step 3: Preparing the Lid

Take the glass lid and pierce the plastic part of the lid with the needle. There is a small hole in the lid now. Enlarge that hole with a pencil.

Step 4: Fill the Lid

Pour some of the oil on the plastic surface. Press with the toothpick on the surface, but don't pierce the plastic. By pressing, you will create a low pressure. That will cause that the lid sucks the oil in the lid. Repeat this till you have a third of the lid filled. (The foto's are from pouring the red water, but with oil, it's exactly the same.)

Step 5: Fill the Lid

This is exactly the same as the last step, only you use the red water instead of the oil:

Pour some of the red water on the plastic surface. Press with the toothpick on the surface, but don't pierce the plastic. By pressing, you will create a low prssure. That will cause that the lid sucks the red water in the lid. Repeat this till you have a third of the lid filled.

Step 6: Close the Lid

Glue the hole, so it's closed. Make sure you put enough glue in/on the hole, so it won't leak.

Step 7: Watch It Move

It's finished. You can shake it and watch the liquids move.
