These yarn balls are fun to play with and have multiple purposes.

Step 1: Materials Needed

These are cheap and simple to make.

You will need:

-A skein of yarn

-Scissors

-Your favorite essential oils (optional)

-Something to wrap your yarn around, I will use an empty toilet paper roll. FYI: The greater the circumference of your guide, the larger your yarn ball will be. The toilet paper roll was slightly small for me.

Step 2: Wrapping

Take your guide and tie a simple knot around it with the yarn. (See Above)

Start to wrap your yarn around your guide. Continue until satisfied. The more loops you wrap, the denser your yarn ball will be. (I found that mine was not quite dense enough)

Cut off any excess yarn. Yours should now look similar to mine above.

Step 3: Removing Yarn From Guide

This step is pretty self-explanatory. Just pull the yarn off of your guide. See images.

Step 4: Tying It All Together

Carefully place your bundle of yarn on top of another piece of yarn, preferably of another color. About 1 ft would work.

Tie a square knot around the bundle of yarn as tight as possible. This is much easier with a buddy. ;)

Now turn the bundle over and tie another square knot. Cut off any excess.

Step 5: Cut the Loops!

take your scissors and cut all of the loops on your yarn ball. It should look like the images above.

WARNING! BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CUT THE BLUE CENTER LOOP. IT WILL FALL APART AND MAKE A HUGE MESS.

Step 6: Trim All Excess

Fluff your yarn ball until it resembles a messy blob. (See first image above)

Now you will trim your yarn blob into a ball. I have found that a good method is to press your blob flat and cut it into a circle. Repeat until satisfied. Your yarn ball will lose a significant amount of mass during this step.

Remember to avoid the blue center loop!
