Introduction: Ethnic Sewn Hand Purse

About: A Software Engineer. I love learning new things. Hooked up with Instructables. It is the biggest find I ever made. :D Cooking and Crochet are my passion. I love to learn different techniques and cuisines.

Sewing your own hand purse. How cool is that? You can create your own purse with just the fabric stash that you have. There are unlimited options of fabrics that you can pair with and create some amazing designs for your hand purse.

The measurement is given below:

Main fabric (2 pieces) - 10*7 inches (including seam allowance)

Lining fabric (2 pieces) - 10*7 inches (including seam allowance)

Net fabric (2 pieces) - 10 * 5.5 inches

Lace (2 pieces) - 10 inches

Zipper - 1

Step 1: Fabric

Select your favorite fabrics for main and lining. Select matching zipper and the lace.

I have used ethnic net fabric here.

Step 2: Cut Fabric As Per Measurement

Step One is to Cut Your Fabric. You can use a rotary cutter to cut super straight lines or cut it with scissors. I have made a template with chart paper.

From your main fabric cut 2 pieces as per the measurement.
From your lining fabric cut 2 pieces as per the measurement.

Cut two pieces of lace.

Also, cut the net fabric as per the measurement.

Step 3: Sew Net and Material Together

Sew the net fabric and the main fabric together placing the net over the main fabric.

Place the net fabric as per your wish. I have placed it a little lower than the main fabric as I can add in the lace for a beautiful finish.

Step 4: Sew the Lace

At the intersection of the net and main material add in the lace. Sew it securely.

In the same way, sew two main front fabrics and keep them aside.

Step 5: Zipper Time

Now take the zipper. Change to the zipper foot for easier sewing.

As shown in the pic keep the right side of the main material and lining material facing each other over the zipper and with the help of the zipper foot sew them together. It is always better to give double sewing to keep it secure.

Do it for the other side of the zipper too.

Now check when the materials are inverted they fall correctly as shown in the photo.

Step 6: Finishing the Inner Sew

Now take the lining materials of both sides together. Also, bring the main material together. With the help of pins place them securely.

Also, make sure that the zipper is open to a small extent inside so that you have a small space for inverting through the zipper. (Very important).

Now sew along the edges starting from the midway of the lining material. Go along the entire edges and over the zipper.

Leave a small gap at the center of the lining material. You can close sew it later on.

Step 7: Creating Box Corners

Now you are going to create box corners on these. Do this with both outer corners and both inner corners. To do this, grab the bottom corner of the bag and turn it so that that the fabric is laying as shown in the picture.

You will then sew a seam across the top tip of that triangle a few inches down from the tip.

Then snip off that tip.

Do this for both the main material and lining.

Step 8: Invert

Now through the zip opening, you have left initially and through the opening left at the lining invert the main material outside.

Sew close the opening at the lining fabric.

Now, invert in the lining material inside the main material.

Your self-sewn simple hand purse is ready. Imagination for fabrics is unlimited. I have used an ethnic-type net fabric here to make it look fancy. Hope you like them.
