Introduction: Experiment on Applying a Color Image to Sapphire Glass With a Diode Laser (Endurance 4 Watt DPSS Laser Nd: YAG, 1064 Nm, F = 20mm).

A task:

Create a color image on the surface of a sapphire glass without the use of dyes. In this work, I was helped by the information provided on the site https://endurancelasers.com/an-endurance-lasers-library/

Step 1:

1. Image
preparation:

The BMW logo was taken as a basis. Then the logo was divided into separate layers. Each layer will have its own color during processing.

Step 2:

2. A test
run was carried out on an anodized plate to check the correctness of the relative position of the layers.

Each layer was engraved separately, all layers matched.

Step 3:

3. A plate
made of a certain metal is placed on the laser desktop (the resulting color will depend on the type of metal). A sapphire crystal plate is fixed on it. An important point was the setting of the focus of the lens - the distance between the glass surface and the bottom of the emitter should be 11 mm.

Copper (background) was selected as the first material. Processing was carried out in the following mode:

Speed - 90mm / min., Power 25%, interval 0.1mm, number of passes - 1.

The final layer color is brown

For identical placement of the plate when engraving the next layers, the starting point of the laser is marked with a marker.

The second material was brass (ring with letters). Processing was carried out in the following mode:

Speed - 20mm / min., Power 99%, interval 0.1mm, number of passes - 1.

The final layer color is black.

The last material used was titanium (inner part). Processing was carried out in the following mode:

Speed - 25mm / min., Power 99%, interval 0.1mm, number of passes - 1.

The final layer color is blue

Step 4:

As a

result, in the course of the work carried out, it was possible to obtain a clear three-color image on a sapphire glass using a diode laser.
