Introduction: Extendable Spear/Staff

This is an extendable Spear/Staff designed for my brother. His birthday is on May 25th, so I made this for his birthday. Unfortunately, he's in college right now so I can't really give the staff to him physically for a while.

PVC 1" SCH40

PVC 1/2" SCH40

PVC 3/4" SCH40

LED Strip Light

Microbit

Step 1: Cut Your PVC

Depending on how you want your staff, you could cut each pipes as long as you like.

For my pieces of PVC pipe, the lengths for the

1/2" PVC: ~33 cm (2 pieces)

3/4" PVC:~31 cm (2 pieces) ~61 cm or 2 feet

Step 2: Sand Down Your PVC

Depending on how long you want the standard form of the PVC, you can sand down the PVC using a sand belt, or manually sand it down. If you're going to manually sand it down, file it first before using sand paper to make it smooth and easier to slide in and out of the PVC.

Step 3: Drill Holes Into the PVC

Any screw can work for this part, just make sure that the screws aren't big enough to damage the entire PVC, and that the PVC that goes into the larger PVC has a bigger hole drilled into it.

Step 4: Paint the PVC!

I used a spray paint bottle to color this PVC, but obviously be careful because you might spray paint (or paint) the surface that you're doing this on. Make sure to use some cardboard or something that you don't mind getting dirty underneath your PVC.

Step 5: Add Some Lights (optional)

Using and RGB LED strip, you can use a microbit and code yourself a pattern or a color of your choosing. I have some code that I already created down below if you want to use it.

Step 6: You're All Done!

Congratulations! You made (or just looked at) a staff!
