Introduction: Extended Lanyard/diamond Knot

This tutorial is based on an article in the December issue of Knotting Matters, the publication of the International Guild of Knot Tyers.

Step 1:

I usually use the index and middle fingers of my left hand instead of the dowel.

Bring the two ends around as shown.

Step 2:

Bring the right end over the dowel as shown.

Bring the left end in a loop to the right and then across the dowel going over two, under one and over two.

Step 3:

Bring the left end over two, under one and over two and...........

Step 4:

bring the same end over one and under the strand that goes around the dowel.

Step 5:

Bring the other strand over one and under the strand that goes around the dowel.

Step 6:

Bring that same strand through the center of the knot as shown and.........................

Step 7:

do the same with the other strand.

Step 8:

To tighten the knot I find it easier to do as much tightening on the dowel (fingers) as possible before..........

Step 9:

slipping the knot off the dowel and straightening the knot before tightening.

Step 10:

To double the knot bring each end parallel to the strand going around the dowel and follow it around. Bring the end through the center of the knot at the obvious point.

Step 11:

It took four feet of 1/4" cotton cord to set up this doubled knot. 7" were left over after tightening
