Faux Fur Earmuffs

So my little sister broke my other little sister's pink headphones and my mom said thrown them away. But as soon as I got to the trash can I realised that I could save them. Thus the old, broken headphones became faux fur earmuffs. I saw some ear muffs somewhere on the internet so I decided to use this opportunity to make a version of theses. 

Things you'll need:

• white faux fur
• scissors
• marker
• paper, pencil 
• tacky glue
• sewing machine
• needle and thread 
• seam ripper
• hair brush or comb
• mini clamps 
• (lint roller)        Optional

Step 1: Deconstruct the Headphones

First I cut off the remaining cords and opened the sides to remove the little stub.  Then I unscrewed the four tiny screws connecting the band to the speakers. Using my handy dandy seam ripper, I took out the whip stitch around the edge of the band. Inside I found a much smaller plastic band and the metal frame. 

Step 2: Make the Pattern

Then I traced the ear cone thing and the band pieces on paper and add a 1/2 seam allowance . I made a mock up of the pattern and saw that i needed a strip for the circumference of the circle and  proceeded to cut a 2 by 12 inch strip with seam allowance include.

Step 3: Trace and Cut

Now we shall take over the world!!!!!! Or we can just flip the fur over to the wrong side and trace each pattern piece twice. And then cut it out with an exacto knife or box cutter. Yeah we'll just go with the trace and cut. But be warned that when cutting the fur make sure the nap of the fur is going the direction that you want it to go for all pieces. And that you'll have lots of fur fuzz everywhere!! Now is a good time to break out the hair brush that you sing into and brush the fur to get rid of some fuzz. A lint roller will help in the end. 

Step 4: Sew It All Up

Pin the strip around a circle right sides together, making sure to tuck in all loose fur into the inside. The nap of the fur should be facing down and the ends of the strip should be at the top. With the nap down pin the other circle  about halfway around the strip starting at the top. Then repeat , rinse and wash. The reason for the gap is to have room to fit the ear piece in the fur pocket.  Place the two band pieces right sides together and sew down the sides. Flip inside out and brush or comb the fur with the nap. 

Step 5: Behold Faux Fur Earmuffs

Flip the ear pockets inside out and sew a blind stitch around. Insert the plastic band and metal frame into the fur pocket. Using tacky glue, glue down the edges to the frame and secure it with clamps. Assemble the band to the earmuffs by adding the screws to the side slides.
