Intro: Faux Quartz Crystal Jewelry

Mold and cast quartz crystal with resin to look just like the real thing, only lighter! It's easy to add colorants, glitter, paint and wire to make your jewelry pieces look amazing.

STEP 1: Watch the Short Video Tutorial Here!

STEP 2: You'll Need

Flat metal cuffs

Ranger Melt Art Mold-N-Pour putty

E-6000 Glue

Glaze Coat

One or two crystals to mold

Cups, stir sticks and gloves

Tape

STEP 3: Make the Mold

Mix equal parts of the Mold-N-Pour putty

Press your real crystal into the putty and surround it to create your mold

Wait 10 minutes and remove the real crystal

Mix equal parts of Glaze Coat and stir for 5 minutes

Fill your molds with the Glaze Coat

STEP 4: Remove and Adhere

Remove the bubbles with a long arm lighter

Let cure overnight in an unoccupied room or outside

*You can also use colorants and glitter with this process

When cured, scrape of the edges with a craft knife (if you need to)

Glue the "quartz crystals" to a flat metal cuff with E-6000

Tape in place while they dry

Super cool idea. I was wondering if you could make the tutorial more detailed with pictures? I love to try this. But, steps like how/when to color/glitter, or how to make/get the mold, drying times; what does it mean "remove bubbles with lighter?"- how? What are the recipes and materials to achieve certain recognizable crystals (like pink quartz, amethyst, etc..) How many times can you use the mold? How to do you make the mold? Do you have a tutorial for that, or include in this tutorial (in detail, with photos). ? What is an alternative to "Glaze Goat"-- maybe Modge Podge (U.S. market)? So you make the mold around the crystal, or make the mold then insert the crystal and seal? Do you need to coat the final product? How do you attach bales? Are the crystals resin based? How do you put holes in the crystals if you don't want to use bales? Will they brake? Do you need to sand or do any modifications to the final "crystal" to make it more realistic looking. I make jewelry, and this will help me make more affordable jewelry for the lower end lines. Where is a good resource for finding a variety of real quartz shapes for this project ? I can't wait to try, but need a little more help (if you have time). Okay, a lot more help. Thank you for posting!!

Hey Olek, That's what I did. I used a real crystal for the mold and then made the faux crystals with resin in the molds.
Hey Danger! Great to hear from you. I've been going a bit nuts with the faux crystal. Just made some beautiful jars with these as handles......LOVE! Sharing very soon.

Hope you're well! Mark

I can see why! I love that aesthetic! I can't wait to see more stuff you make with them. I might have to make some of these moulds myself!

Hey Nathan, Super easy to do, too. Soon I'll have a home made recipe for the molding putty. Stay tuned and thanks for the comment.
