Step 2: Making the Tea
For 1 cup of tea, place a 1-2 tsp. of dried herbs in a tea cup (mug). For 2-3 cups of Conceptions Tea, put 3-4 heaping tsp of dried herbs in a teapot or glass canning jar.
Pour boiling water over the herbs, cover with lid or small plate for 1 cup method, or cap tightly if making in a jar. Let steep for a minimum of 15 minutes. Capping tightly insures you will not let any of the medicinal qualities of the herbs evaporate, this is especially important for the volitle oils contained in many of the plants. Because this tea is a mixture of bark (hard parts) and leaves, it needs to be steeped for the required time or longer to extract the medicinal properties of the hard bark parts. For 1 cup steep for 15 minutes. For a quart steep for 30 minutes to 3 hours.
Step 3: Adding Healthy Fats (optional)
Adding healthy fats to your tea helps your body absorb fat soluble vitamins.
Lauric acid found in coconut oil and breast milk has been found to have antiviral, antibacterial and parasiticidal (kills parasites) properties that support proper immune function. This may help to protect your and your baby’s health in pregnancy. The benefits of lauric acid continues on during lactation, as those benefits are directly passed to your baby through your breast milk. Breast milk is comprised of about 20% lauric and capric acid, these help to protect your baby from illness.
