Introduction: Fiat Lux

About: Thank you all for following me.

This is a brief instruction how to make mobile powerful lamp. which can be used everywhere in the house : in the kitchen, in the garage, in the basement, or simply where you need a strong light.

Step 1: What Do You Need for That ....

The main part is the 50VW 220V/110V LED. It can bought in Aliexpress or some other Chinese portal

WARNING: THE DEVICE USES DANGEROUS FOR THE LIFE VOLTAGES AND YOU SHOULD TAKE CARE IN ALL OPERATIONS AND AVOID ANY CONTACT TO NON INSULATED WIRES AND SURFACES. YOU SHALL CHECK ALSO FOR ANY SHORT CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SUPPLY CABLE AND THE COOLING RADIATOR. ALL WORKS YOU PERFORMED WILL BE DONE OM YOUR OWN RISK AND RESPONSIBILITY.

As written above, you will need a heavy aluminium cooler. You can chose the wattage for your LED, but for 50 and more Watts power, the cooler must be really bulky. I took my from some old industrial computer.

You will need a power cord - as long you need and preferably not very thick - it must be flexible.

Additionally : some resin or silicon power cable protector - like this or this.

The LED, which I have ordered has its own reflector and protection glass with silicon sealing.

Silicon thermal paste - obligatory!

M3 or M4 screws ....

and outlet plug, according your power standard grid

Tools:

  • Drill with 2.5mm or 3.5 mm, 5-8mm bits,
  • Soldering iron
  • Thread cutter (M3 or M4) with handle
  • Screwdriver

Step 2: Marking of the Holes

The LED plate must be oriented in the best way need and the places for the screw hokes marked. For the glass protector also.

Step 3: Thread Cutting

First drill with the proper bit, and cur the threads using the tool. Do not forget to make a hole for the cable very close to the LED plate.

Step 4: Mount the LED

Put enough silicon thermal paste, insert the cable using also the silicon or resin holder and screw the LED plate on. Solder the power cord to the LED plate keeping the wires as short as possible. CHECK IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY SHORT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CABLE WIRES AND THE COOLER BODY. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR YOUR LIFE!.

Step 5: Mount the Glass Protector and the Plug

Mount the glass protector together with the sealing. Install the plug. Insert in tje outlet socket.... Enjoy!

P.S. If you fill up the cable hole with epoxy glue the whole assembling should be water resistant - could be used outdoor also. But this on your own risk. You have to be sure that everything is fully hermetic.

P.P.S. After some time of work the whole assembling can become very hot - if the cooler is not enough massive and effective. In this case you could mount additionally a fan to cool down the lamp. Under desire - a thermal sensor can be mounted on the radiator and if some temperature threshold is over driven, then the fan can be switched on. Everything lays on your imagination ...

Thanks for your attention!
