Introduction: Video: Crochet Seed Stitch Scarf Pattern/Video

This is one of my favorite basic stitch patterns and one of the most popular. You are only using Single Crochet's and Double Crochet's. There is no turning chain in case you're a beginner and unsure how to do it.

FIBONACCI SEQUENCE INFORMATION

(If the info below is confusing you can go to the next step)

To create the stripe pattern I used the Fibonacci sequence.. The section of the sequence I am using is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5 then I go in reverse...5, 3, 2, 1, 1. I am using the lighter yarn for those rows. I'm doing 8 rows in between each of those “sequences” in Dark Brown. To see the yarn changes by row see Step 2.


If your not familiar with the Fibonacci Sequence this is how it goes. The first two Fibonacci numbers are 0 and 1, the next number is the sum of the previous two. So 0+1=1 which is why there is a 2nd "1". Then 1+1=2 etc... and so on. The sequence is 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, 34,55,89,144 etc...

Step 1: Grab Your Supplies:

Gather your supplies. I used an I/9 which is 5.50mm 9UK size hook. This time I used Impeccible Yarn by Loops ad Threads. Only found at Michaels Stores. It's my 2nd favorite to Caron 1 Pound yarn. Any worsted weight yarn will do the job.

Step 2: Seed Stitch Pattern



Row 1: do 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row

Row 2: chain 1, turn… skip 1st stitch (normally you don't but for this pattern you have an "empty" stitch every other stitch), *1SC and 1DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch* repeat across the row. When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch

Below is the color changes I did using the Fibonacci Scale. I separated the Fibonacci numbers with 8 rows of the Dark Brown yarn.

First 8 rows – Dark Brown

1 row – Light Yarn

8 rows – Dark Brown

1 row – Light Yarn (Fibonacci)

2 row – Light Yarn (Fibonacci)

8 rows – Dark Brown

3 row – Light Yarn (Fibonacci)

5 row – Light Yarn (Fibonacci)

Step 3: Other Items Using This Stitch

Above are a couple items that I made using the Seed Stitch. I love the texture it makes which is easier to see on the vest than the blanket. It's pretty when you make a color change which, again, is easier to see on the vest.
