Introduction: Fix Your STL Files With Microsoft Model Repair Service (free!)
This is a very simple and powerful service offered by Microsoft and powered by netfabb. Using a simple 3 step process, the tool will automatically fix many common problems with 3d models. The tool supports STL, OBJ, 3MF and VRML files.
Step 1: Point Your Browser of Choice to the Model Repair Service Website
As you can see in the screenshot, the URL is https://modelrepair.azurewebsites.net.
Step 2: Sign in to the Model Repair Service
You'll need a Microsoft account to access the site. Click the Sign In button, a pop-up window will allow you to sign in using your Microsoft account. If you don't get the login window, please check any pop-up blocker you may have and allow the pop-up window.
Step 3: Upload Your File
You'll see a very simple interface after logging in. Simply click the upload button and select the file you would like to repair. The file will upload and automatically queue for repair. When the file is repaired, move on to the next step.
Step 4: Download Your Newly Repaired File!
Click the now lit up DOWNLOAD button to download your newly repaired file. Very simple and very powerful. I've had great luck with the tool and tend to run all my STLs through it before printing just to ensure I will have a good file. Remember the old adage, "Garbage in. Garbage out".

Convert .3MF to .STL --> http://www.swiftconverter.com/convert_3d

A similar service is atomic compiler (www.atomiccompiler.com). Somewhat different in that it uses a command line interface; so, not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But it is fast, free, no registration required, etc., so it's worth checking out to see if it works for you.

Best times are not over yet ! hahaha
Try and use http://www.nicelab.fr/repair-convert & you'll receive your .stl files.
I also use their mesh cleaning service and it's cool.

Unfortunately it seems that you can no longer receive a fixed .STL file. I have used this service many time before. Today I tried to use the repair site and the file that the site returned was also converted to a *.3mf format. I cannot use that... BEst times are over. The man is locking things up again.

3mf files can be opened with 3D Builder, which is a built in app in Windows 10 and 8.1. From there you can save to STL format if you want or print directly if your printer is supported. If you are still using an older version of windows (or if you don't mind the 3mf file), you can still open 3mf files directly with CURA. I imagine the list of programs supporting 3mf files will continue to grow.

Hmmm these 3mf files dont work with repetier Cura

3mf files are the new standard initially proposed by MS and now backed by companies such as Ultimaker. You can load 3mf files directly into Cura for printing. Anyone wondering about 3mf files can look here:

Also, if you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 you can use Microsoft's 3D Builder program to open 3mf files. Either to print directly or save as various other formats (including STL).

Thanks! I just happened to find out about it via an off hand comment in a random forum. I think most people don't know about it and it's been such a valuable resource for me. I'm glad I can share.
