Introduction: Flamenco Shoes Bag

About: I'm a programmer from Siberia and the leatherworking is my hobby. I think the everyone deserves really high-quality goods and I'm trying to make them)

This is a really simple bag for shoes. Like a box, just made of leather.)

Step 1: Materials and Tools

You need the following materials:

  1. A piece of good leather
  2. Zipper
  3. Cloth for lining
  4. Zipper end
  5. Threads

The list of tools isn't big too:

  1. A really sharp knife
  2. Ruler and pencil
  3. Sewing machine (I'm using a manual sewing machine)
  4. Lighter
  5. Scissors
  6. Rubber mallet
  7. Glue
  8. Screwdriver

  9. Dividers

Step 2: Prepare the Leather

Cut a piece of leather of the size that you need and mark all parts of the bag on it. I needed 46cmX54cm.

Don't forget an additional 1 cm on each side (the resulting size of the leather piece was 48cmX56cm).

Step 3: Skive the Edges

Skive all four sides, this is what you have the additional 1cm on each edge for. It allows to glue and sew them easier.

Step 4: Glue the Edges

Glue the edges as shown in the picture. A rubber mallet can be handy (it will be much faster).

Note that you need to glue only the two edges that will be on the top of your bag.

Step 5: Glue the Edges Together

Glue the other two edges with each other on the grain side (like in the pictures) and use the mallet again.

Step 6: Sew the Base of the Bag

Sew the edges from the previous step by the 1cm line.

Step 7: Lock the Thread Ends

Make the double knot and burn the thread ends with a lighter.

Cut the angles with a sharp knife or scissors.

Step 8: Prepare the Bottom Angle of the Bag

Divide the previously glued edges.

Now, glue them again but not together. Each edge should be glued to the corresponding side.

Use the rubber mallet for gluing.

Step 9: Sew the Angles and Glue Them

The lines for sewing are the left and right lines of the future bottom of the bag. Glue the angles to the bottom of the bag to make it stronger.

Note that you need to tie/burn the thread ends.

Step 10: Make Corners Stronger

For a good shape, you can beat each corner off with the rubber mallet.

Be very careful to remove excess corners...

Step 11: Prepare the Cloth

Cut a piece of cloth of the same size as the leather piece in the step "Prepare the Leather" and mark all sides of the bag on it.

Step 12: Glue the Lining

Glue the cloth as you glued the leather in steps 4 and 5.

Step 13: Sew the Lining

Sew the lining for the bag like you did in the previous steps, just using the cloth instead of leather. And we don't need to glue the bottom angles. It's better to remove them and burn the edges with a lighter.

Step 14: Glue the Zipper and the Lining

Glue the zipper first, check it (you may need to redo it several times for the best result), and only then glue the lining.

Note that gluing the cloth several times is not good because the cloth is many times thinner than the leather and glue can show through on the front.

Step 15: Sew the Entrance of the Box

I'm using a special tool for marking a line near the edge of the leather, which could be replaced by dividers.

After marking the line, just sew by it and tie/burn the thread ends.

Step 16: Resize the Zipper

Cut the excess part of the zipper, burn the cut edge with a lighter and install the zipper end (you will need a screwdriver for this).

Step 17: Beat Off the Corners Again

Just do it )))

Step 18: Polish It

The bag is already complete... This step is for making it waterproof.

I'm using KIWI, and you can use any wax you like.
