Introduction: Flat Packed Cocktail Shaker

Have you ever seen a flat packed cocktail shaker? I haven't seen any so i decided to make a flat packed cocktail shaker (actually it's a school project).

Step 1: What Do You Need?

Materials:

- a sheet of steel (thickness 10mm)

- a plastic bag or something else which is flexible and waterproof

- a coloured rope, the rope I used is 2mm diameter (the rope should'n be too thick or too thin)

- paint

- something to glue and seal the steel (I used Pattex Power Fix Polymer)

Tools:

- drill

- grinding wheel

- Hacksaw

- clamp

- caulking gun

- metal file

- scriber

- scissors

- ruler

- paint brush

Don't forget the ear plugs because you will have to use the grinding wheel (it's loud) and also use other equipments for your safety.

Step 2: Cutting the 'sheet'

Cut the sheet of steel the same way as in the drawing with grinding wheel or a hacksaw. When you cut the 'strip', you have to stop cutting 5mm from the edge (on the side with only 3 holes). Then cut the small part and fold them, also take the thickness of the sheet into account when you fold them. Then drill the holes.

Use the metal file to round the edges.

Step 3: Cutting the 'cover' and the 'baseplate'

Cut the cover, the side of the cover and the baseplate with grinding wheel or hacksaw (see drawing), then drill the holes.

Then bend 'the side of the cover' along the contour of the cover. After bending, use Pattex Power Fix Polymer to glue de side and the cover (glue the inside).

Use the metal file to round the edges.

Step 4: Painting

Paint the parts with the colour you want.

Step 5: Connecting the Parts

Use the rope to connect the parts. First insert the rope through the left hole of the baseplate, then go through the other hole. De side where the knot is, is the inside of the cocktail shaker. Then insert the rope through the right hole of 'the sheet'. The bent part of 'the sheet' is up here.

Insert the rope through the other holes, in the picture the bent part is down.

Use the rope to connect the cover with 'the sheet' (the bent part is up). Don't tie too tight, leave a little space so the cover can move easily.

Step 6: Finished

Now the flat packed cocktail shaker is finished.

Step 7: The Bag

First bend 'the sheet' around the baseplate, the baseplate should be on the bent part of 'the sheet'. Then put the plastic bag in the shaker en cut it (see the drawing). The bag should be a little higher than the cocktail shaker.

Step 8: How to Use

First bend 'the sheet' around the baseplate, the baseplate should be on the bent part of 'the sheet'. Then insert the rope through the holes (see drawing) and pull the rope well. Then put the plastic bag in the shaker. After that, pour the drink and put the ice in the cocktail shaker. Close the cover and start shaking. Then open the cover a little, open enough for the drink to comes out (see last photo) and pour the drink in a glass. Enjoy your cocktail!
