Introduction: Flip Top Bottle Cap. Make a Durable and Strong Bottle Cap for Any Wine or Beer Bottle.

Warning: This inscrutable is a work in progress. Is in need of a lot of work.

With this bottle cap you can close up any bottle or jar you want to.

You will need.

A bottle with a rim near the mouth of the neck. (Wine and beer bottles work perfectly)

Iron wire #18 (I use galvanized iron don’t know the name in English)

Wire pliers.

Step 1: 1. Cutting the Cork.

Cut the cork, just leaving a little base for the bottle mouth.

Shave the rim of the cork so it fit inside the bottle mouth easily.

Make an incision all around the middle of the top half of the cork.

Step 2: Making the Staples.

Cut a piece of wire.

Measure the middle and make a mark.

Measure 0.5 cm. to each side of the mark.

Fold in the tow external marks the two sides of the wire, to make a big staple like wire.

straight the folds to make it more square

Step 3: Making the Base of the Bottle Cap.

Measure the
neck of the bottle, just below the rim.

Cut a piece of wire 1 ½ of the size of the bottle neck.

Make a mark in the middle of the wire and fold it on either side of the mark leaving about a centimeter in the center, like a big staple. (We will make most of our folds this way)

Measure 2 cm. from the top of the big staple and fold it in half. Until you have a little loop.

Fold the sides of the loop out side and round the rest of the wire.

Step 4:

Fold the sides of the loop out side and round the rest of the wire.

Adjust the round shape to the bottle neck.

Make a 1 cm mark directly opposed to the loop and fold the external sides of the wire to the out side.

With the extremes of the wire make an “S” shape on both sides and cut the excess wire.

Cut a little piece of wire of about 2 cm.

Step 5:

Make a little staple with the 2 cm. wire.

Adjust the round looped wire to the bottle neck and fasten it with the little staple, fold in the sides of the staple.

Step 6: Closing Piece.

Cut a piece of wire about 10 cm. long.

Fold it like a big staple. Measuring 1 cm. in the middle and folding the two sides of the wire, to make a big staple like wire.

Make a mark in the middle of the long sides of the big staple on each side, and make a loop on both sides.

Try to make these at the very same level and as the same as possible.

Don’t flatten the staple the wire on the sides of the loop most make an angle.

Fold in the extremes of the wire.

Adapt the looped wire to the base of the bottle.

Step 7: Making the Top of the Cap.

Measure the top of the cork around the incision.

Cut a piece of wire the double of the measure of the top part of the cork.

Fold it in the middle to make a big staple, just as the other ones, just make the center a little smaller than 1cm. this time.

Measure 1 cm. from the top of the staple and make a mark. About 0.5 cm form the top fold the tip of the big staple upward. Not too much just a little.

At the marks of the centimeter fold the wire to the out side.

Round the extremes of the wire an adjust it to the top of the cork.

Step 8:

Make a mark of 1 cm length exactly opposite to the upward tip.

Fold to the out side the extremes of the wire.

Adjust the wire to the cork and make a mark at the same place were the bottle mouth is.

Use a ruler to make the mark. In the place of the mark fold downward the wires.

Measure the length of the wires to the base of the cap.

Make little open loops at the same level of the loops on the base. Cut the excess wire.

Adjust the loops to the base of the cap and close them up.

Step 9: If the Top of the Cap Is a Little Wobbly.

If the top of the cap is a little wobbly measure the length of the cork and make a big staple to keep every thing in place. If not go to next step.

Fasten the top of the staple to the upward tip an the extremes of the wires to the back of the top cap.

Step 10: Making the Closing Piece.

As usual measure the length between the upward tip and the tow loops of the base cap.

Cut a wire of the size of the measure adding 3 cm to the length.

Make a usual big staple, this time make the center of the staple a little bit bigger than 1 cm. ( 1.2 cm aprox.)

Put it on the upward tip and make a mark in the place were the mouth of the bottle is.

Step 11:

Open a little bit the staple and on the mark fold slightly both of the wire extremes in.

Put it on the upward tip and make marks in the place were the loops of the base cap are.

Fold the tips of the wire and cut the excess wire.

Put the folded tips inside the loops and the top of the piece in the upward tip.

It most closes the bottle cap. Adjust the parts if needed.

And that’s it.
