Intro: Flower Pens Make a Great DIY Gift

If you're looking for a nice DIY gift to give at christmas, these will work just great! We used to give these flower pens to our teachers each year. They absolutely loved them and used them for the rest of the year!

STEP 1: Gather Your Materials

You'll need:
  • Pens, pens, and more pens,
  • Green floral tape
  • Hot glue gun
  • Artificial flowers (the kind is up to you!)
  • Scissors
  • Cutting pliers

STEP 2: Prepare the Pens

Take your cutting pliers and snip the end off the pens. Make sure to do this away from your eyes because the ends go flying! After, pull out the inside of the pen and cut down the plastic to where the ink ends.

You may also need to snip the end of the flowers. It's best to leave a maximum of an inch.

Now is a good time to turn on the hot glue gun!

STEP 3: Roll Up You Pens

Take your floral tape and cut a diagonal cut at the end. Pull out the inside of the pen and fold part of the diagonal cut into the opening. This will keep your tape in place. Start rolling the tape up the pen until you're just below the top. Make sure the tape is pulled tight.

STEP 4: Glue the Flower

Take your hot glue gun and squeeze some glue into the top of the pen. Take your flower and press it into the top of the pen. Once the flower is securely in, continue rolling the tape until you're at the base of the flower. Rip off the tape and smooth it out to make sure it sticks.

STEP 5: Let It Dry and You're Done

Let everything dry and then it's complete. You can choose to add the pen caps if you want, but most of the time, we just leave the pen the way it is.

I've made these before with campers, but instead of cutting the top, we put the stem down the side and put the floral tape around it. I also had them decorate pots and put beans inside to they had a hand made holder to, big hit. I 100% these are great DIY gifts, well done!
I love the holder idea! I'll had to try that out :)
Do! Super simple, use acrylic paint. :) I made several for friends and family and the kids parents adored those that they brought home.
Very cute! I always loved these and wanted to take them when I would see them in the school office :)
Thank you! I was always that kid who brought them to suck up to teachers haha
