Hello.

I recently bought a 500 W fog machine from Amazon.ca and tested it with a green laser 100 mw 532 nm. Red laser 650 nm, 80 mw, and Purple laser 100 mw 405 nm. I have also tested it with a flashing purple 100 mw laser too. The fog machine uses glycerine with ethanol and water but you should buy the fog liquid and add it to the 400-500 W fog machine as is and try not to make formulas that could damage the Machine.

Here is some info on the fog machines and some info on the lasers used.

Lasers at these levels are NOT TOYS. Wear safety goggles and be careful about the beam of the lasers. They are capable of causing blindness if misused.

That is the part of the theory. Well, the next step will be a brief theory on how the fog machine works with lasers tho.

Supplies

Fog Machine 400-500 Watts.

Fog Liquid.

Prisms

Lasers

100 mw Green 532 nm Laser.

100 mw Purple 405 nm laser.

80 mw-100 mw Red 630-650 nm laser.

Flashing 100 mw or 100 mj per second 405 nm laser.

Stand and clamps for lasers.

Jack handle flexible to move prisms up and down.

Dyes Rhodamine b in water (2 g in 150 ml of water).

Step 1: Theory on the Thin Film Interference Patterns.

IF done correctly and enough fog is created then a thin film interference pattern occurs. N2 is greater than N1. N2 is the fog at 1.46 and Air is 1.0. So when N2 is greater than N1 then the beam can disperse into constructive and destructive waves creating this Pattern. Please see the wiki below.

The Refractive index is dependant also on temperature and color. So the different lasers will be affected differently.

Step 2: Fog Machine With Red, Pulsing Violet Laser, and Green Laser. Includes Set Up for Lasers.

A fog Machine at 500 W from Amazon.ca is turned on with the fog liquid inside the Machine. Three lasers are turned on (Red laser, Green laser, and flashing violet laser). The fog machine is remotely set to activate by a switch in 4 minutes.

Here are two videos on that fog machine as well besides the pictures. The prisms and Rhodmaime b in a beaker glow orange under the green laser.

Step 3: Fog Machine With Four Lasers (Red, Green, Flashing Violet and Violet).

The fog machine like last time is set to be turned on without the lights activated and press the fog switch and waited 4 minutes. The fog comes out and very pretty results of the laser beam interaction with the fog happen.

Laser shows if the fog is high enough can create thin-film interference but not always it depends on the type of fog used.

Step 4: Final Thoughts.

Laser beams and fog from a Fog Machine work Nicely. It is a cool combination effect that can only be repeated by using High powered lasers and fog. Unlike regular light, Lasers are better since they are concentrated single beams of light, unlike regular light.

So with respect with the lasers and the fog many neat effects can be observed with a fog Machine 400-500 Watts and the lasers.
